Question about Charge and Whirlwind.

How do these 2 skills affect a character's defense?

For example, how much defense does a Paladin have while using Charge? In running and walking modes, respectively.

Also, how does Whirldwind affect a Barbarian's defense?

Someone please explain.

To my knowledge, a character is considered as running while charging, i.e. each melee attack hits with a 95% chance and blocking is reduced to 1/3. I'm not 100% sure about that, however.

WW has no influence on the defense.

In both cases it's irrelevant whether the character is in walk or in run mode.

So by "WW has no influence", you mean that the Barbarian's defense remains constant as if he's standing?

Yes. This is like how an Assassin is able to block while moving in the WW.

i'm certain that you are considered to be 'running' while in a charge animation, so blocking definatly drops to 1/3 (eg: 25%CtB at best).

i'm not sure that it has any effect on defense however. afaik: if you have 10k def while walking, you still have 10k def while running for chance-to-hit calculations.

The whole to/hit calculation is skipped while running. Defense doesn't matter, only block, which is reduced to 1/3.

that's correct. Enemy attacks hit with a 100% chance while running (not 95%, as I wrote before), but only if you are still near enough to the enemy when the attack comes to the point at which the hit is applied. Running zigzag helps versus missiles as well.
