Question about Affixes

Affixes usually come in types, for instance the affix type "+Attack Rating" contains Bronze, Iron, Steel, and so on. My question is: when there are multiple affixes under a given type, is there more chance to roll that affix type? For the following example, for simplicity, pretend that we can only have affixes from "+Attack Rating" and "+Poison Damage"

Example A: You find an ilvl1 ring. It is chosen to have a prefix. Possible prefixes:

"+Attack Rating"
Bronze (1)

"+Poison Damage"
Septic (1)

In this hypothetical example, there is a 1/2 chance of the prefix 'Bronze', and 1/2 chance of the prefix "Septic."

Example B: You find an ilvl4 ring. It is chosen to have a prefix. Possible prefixes:

"+Attack Rating"
Bronze (1)
Iron (4)

"+Poison Damage"
Septic (1)

Now, is there a 1/3 chance of Bronze, 1/3 chance of Iron and 1/3 chance of Septic? Or is there a 1/4 chance of Bronze, 1/4 chance of Iron and 1/2 chance of Septic? Thanks. :thumbup:

I didn't read the whole thing (actually I didn't read for more than ~5 seconds; it's too much thinking for a Friday evening), but this might contain your answer... or maybe not... the example with the "frequency" looks like it could be pertinent.

Yep, it is answered there actually, thanks. I bookmarked that page. So if a type (such as +Attack Rating) has more than one affix, each one gets its own chance. So you have Bronze at alvl1, then when 'Iron' gets opened at alvl4, suddenly there's 2x as much chance of getting stuck with a +AR prefix (simplistic example but just illustrating the point.) It's actually more complex than that, since affixes also have inherent chances attached to them.

What I'd like to do is create an affix calculator which can tell you the % chance of getting rares with the chosen affixes, and also open it up to allow for wider possibilities. For instance, you tell it "I require rare boots with 20%+ MF and any 3 resistances over 20%" and it gives you the odds to drop in various locations, or gambling at various clvls. Would be pretty complicated, but useful I think.

The German affix calculator has some similar functionality with lots of options, but to be honest the most useful part of it for me is just figuring out what ilvl various affixes start spawning on various items. For jewelry it's easy to figure out, but for other items where qlvl comes into to play, their calculator works quite well.
