PvP Smiter w/o Grief?

Odd build in my head, wondering if this idea would work off the paper and in the blood moor.

Traditional Smiter skills but gear changed to:

Phoenix Berserker Axe or Pb
Phoenix Pally Shield
Enigma
Trang's Gloves
Cat's Eye Amulet
.08 Valk's Helm with IAS jewel
Arachnid's
FCR Ring
Ravenfrost

Gives you 75% Fcr for telesmiting casters.
80% Chance to cast firestorm on attack, and another 25% to cast that "thing" from your torch. Which means you have a pretty good chance of casting some fire stuff when you smite, and this should stunlock most characters. I'm seeing how the piddly damage would make this character get destroyed by attacks that can't be interrupted like WW etc etc.

But do you think the firestorm is reliable enough to build a smiter around phoenix? And the charms would have to be skillers with fhr/life because skills are the main source of damage now, not the grief.

The casting delay off of firestorm is really annoying and wondering if there's anyway to get around that delay. Do you guys think the delay is too long (15 frames) to be viable?

Yes its useless as a damage skill.

But I'm thinking it'll work in a similar way that assasins use their fire traps. When the stun swirly is up after the smite, any amount of damage will put them into hit recovery and what better way to that then with a constant burning flame.

Im pretty sure that all dupped/bugged/1.08 items are ok to be mentioned here and even discussed, as long as you dont encourage others to use them or trade them here. If im wrong, then please dont bann me either :azn:

Well, they exist so banning discussions about them would be rather stupid. Pimping, advocating etc. is not welcome though.

the damage per second of a level 22 firestorm (from phoenix) is 124-144. With pvp penalty that gives you 20.6-24 . To put an opponent into hit recovery (fhr animation) you need to deal damage equal to 1/15 of their health.

you will have terrible damage physical. Against the casters you will not have enough resistance.

Unique idea, but no way practical

Yea res definitely seems like an issue. But smite puts the stun swirly on, and then you only need 1 damage in order to put them in hit recovery.... or am I wrong about that?!

"80% Chance to cast firestorm on attack". Phoenix is U S E L E S S for a smiter, ive made one myself and it became a 400% ed. Blacked out of hapiness and joined frist pub duel game I saw, then noticed how useless it is. While that close to 0 dmg Firestorm procs it sets you into some wierd casting motion and a wierd flaming circle is shown over ur head. While that circle is over ur head (aprox 0.5 sec) you cant do anything. This means you go from 6 fps smite to like 18 Fps smites b/c of that procs. Works awright for a Zealot scince zealot is not interrupted by the Firestorm procc, but believe me, Phoenix is one of the worst shields in the game for a vindicator. Now i cant even get that stupid shield sold for the same amount I spent on it, and thats with a 400% ed Phoenix in a 42 all ress Sacred Targe.....Im thinking abot Hel+Scrolling away the HRs to make a Spirit -.-"

Yea, firestorm will put them in fhr if the swirlies are over their head after a smite.

But guess what? So will another smite. ZOMG

I know Grief is without any doubt the best weap for a smiter, but guys remember 1.10. A good smiter could still beat a BvC.

Skills > Items

That build = Stun-Locking yourself.

Ebotdz is better than phoenix, exile is better than phoenix....

if you're on ladder, grief is the only thing you should use.

if not, Astrenon might be cheaper.
