PvP: Pure Hammerdin vs. Hammerz/charge

Curious as to which you think is better (your preference)? Obviously this is an opinion, but I'm making a new char, and not sure which to make. Cost is not a big problem, I have access to nigma and hoz and such.

pure hammer if you can make it gg, no melee and elemental can touch you, which in a duel would make the hammer/charge obsolete. and plus you can just be a hammer and still use charge+smite, but dun use zeal, theres no way you can have an effective hammer din with enough ar, plus smite always hits.

Depends on weapon availability, libbys requires quiet some other things - and i'd definately use Libby over hammerdin, they bore me...

I'd suggest watching a few builds then, there's a hammerdin guide in Stickies, in PvP forums there's a Libby guide. Check Libbys out because they should have some talk about the diffrence between Hammerdin and Libbys generally.

Most pure hammerdins goes with Hoto and Wizzy, recklessly Charging or smiting might result in ones death...

Main weapon of hammerdin is creating traps of invisible hammers fields and desync around...
The only class that can and should reliable beat hammerdin (assuming equaly good gear and skills) is wind druid due to sheer range of tornados

And other good character. I don't want to list them, but many builds can take on godly hammerdins.
I personally detest hammerdins in many ways.

In Bad Manner duels nothing beats a pure Hdin.

In Good Manner, a Wind Druid and maybe some obscenely defensive Es/Max Block Blizzer could do it.

I'd go for pure hammer with a 1 point smite/charge option myself.

I personally prefer Liberator. Check out the link in my sig.

Some builds are just easier to kill with charge. Good sorc's, necro's, etc won't get hit by hammers.

Pure hammadin, no question...
Nice stack, Oak (hoto) -> even more gozu life!
if you know how to play him, you wont die vs any chars, except very decent droods

any hdin can be a liberator just put on greif

dont put any points in charge put extra points in res auras

theres no point in debating their relative merits they're one in the same

A hammerdin with a Grief and a Liberator are not the same thing. If they were they wouldn't have different names, skill set-ups, and gear. The difference is that a Liberator can execute two types of unresistible damage more effectivly than a pure hammerdin with a grief can. If you get a libby to a high enough level to have hammers maxed and charge maxed you can actually tell the difference between the liberator and a hammerdin with a grief. Like stated above sometimes its much easier to charge other chars down instead of trying to hammer them. Having the extra 19 points in charge not only makes you hit more but it does alot more damage. One of the best examples of where a libby is more effective than a pure hammerdin is against a BvC that has a widow on switch. A pure hammerdin can have a hard time dealing with a good barb who has a widow while a libby has a much easier time since if you catch them with the bow out you can effectively deliver alot of damage with your powered up charge. I would suggest the libby over a pure hammerdin anyday. It allows more felxibilty since at higher levels a libby can easily put on a hoto and play as a pure hammerdin just as effectivley as if you had built a pure hammerdin in the first place. A pure hammerdin cannot put on a grief and become a libby.

The liberator build was created before grief runeword was born,by the way. You can get a good ar for charge even with a pure hammerdin (eg 2/20/visionary tiara etc). Charge is used against chars with low defense and/or block usually,so ar is less an issue than it seems. 1pt charge/smite with a grief phase on and maxed concentration (hammerdin skill setup) can deal more than enough damage. Both are fine builds but one on one hammerdin wins.
