PvP orb sorc - do they suck?

I have been brainstorming pvp builds and I thought I came upon a genius pvp orb sorc but no matter how I do the calculations. Even a decent orb damage with negative resistanced opponents blows after 1/6 pvp damage. I use a gg pvp blizz sorc at the moment (125 fcr, 86 fhr, -220 cold, 14.5 k blizz) but I what I like about orb is it's spammable. Blizz u have to be really precise in your casting and orb is easier to hit. I RARELY see orb sorcs and the one I played I easily owned. I think they didn't really have good tactics though.

So my question is, can orb sorcs be good pvp at all with such low damage?

yeah they can be good if you explode the "orb" right on top of them, hitting them with 6-7 shards.

The main advantage of orb is that you only require 40 points to max your damage and another 20 for mastery, leaving a bunch more for other skills (like energy shield and telekenesis).

ahh.. so how many shards would you say on average will hit a player if decently aimed? are we looking at 3-4?

at least 3-4. Possibly more like 7-8 if it explodes right on top of them.

Also if you are killing bosses you can actually explode the orb "inside" them and hit them with all of the shards. Dont know how many are actually in the ending "orb"

Years ago I took a bunch of screenshots of my sorc casting orbs and counted every single shard from beginning to end. I can't find them now, but there were about 40 in total and at least 8 in the final explosion.

Frozen Orb are great for pwning noobs, and nothing else

orb sorks can work just fine. but like all sork builds, once someone stacks out your cold mastery and piles on much more than a single ravenfrost worth of 'sorb, your kinda screwed.

one of the best i've duelled was a max-block, es jobbie that used a Doom weapon (extra -res that i don't generally have gear on hand to stack against).

but again: you can (and will) get 'sorbed in pubs with an orber.

I wouldn't say orb sorcs suck, but I'd say it is extremely difficult to make one that can compete at a high level.. I haven't seen any good orb sorcs since 1.09..

I agree, i'd say a Orb sorc's should only be used in PvM as that's their speciality.

The one thing I hate about FO is the timer that affects also other spells like teleport. It's hard to spam FO when your teleport also waits for the timer to go off. If only you can cast FO and tele away continuously waiting for the FO timer to cast off, like FO_Tele_Tele_tele_FO should be the cycle. Unfortunately it's not, it's FO_wait_tele_FO_wait_tele cycle, very annoying in PVP.
