PvP Kicksin Question:

PvP Kicksin Question:

Is it worth it to max block? I was thinking about it the other day, and the only duels I could see block being useful in are vs. Amazons and vs. Barbarians, but I figure Barbarians are going to win anyway and I think a good kicker ought to be able to take down an Amazon before she can do the opposite, even without block -- right?

Well, I don't have a kicker yet so feel free to share your experiences. Max block worth it?

A PvP Kick sin should probably keep its distance against Zons. Any good Kicker will be using good damage traps as well, so you can just play it out and go in when you feel it's safe. The Kick bug makes Kicking Zons a risky business.

But to answer the question, build in max block when you're using Stormshield. If you got Spirit on or something you don't need Max Block, but when switching to a Stormshield Damage Reduce setup it'll probably help you out.

Thanks for the advice. How can I find out if I have max block?
Hit "C" to pull up the char screen, then take the mouse pointer and hover it offer defense, this will tell you enemy's chances to hit you and your chance of blocking. I'm a strong advocate of maintaining a minimum of 65% ctb

But that's typically against a certain type of monster, isn't it? So who should I have a 75% chance to block against? Carvers in A1 normal, or Baal himself in hell?

block rate is applicable for everything, your correct, monsters chance to hit you has more variables involved.

The chance to block is not monster dependant. The only thing it depends on is your dex and clvl. If it says you have a 68% chance to block a quill rat you'll also have a 68% chance to block Baal.

You're confusing "chance to block" with "chance to be hit by X". If it says that you have a 20% chance to be hit by a carver, that means that if your block fails there's still only a 20% chance of that carver hitting you.

Aha, thank you all. Then, is there some list that explains the relationship between clvl and block rate? (Like, how much dex I'd need at x level to have max block.)

Chance to Block
http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551#Chance to Block

Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)]

Blocking = A total of the Blocking on all of your items. (E.g: Guardian Angel, Twitchthroe, Any Shield, Holy Shield)
[] = Round Down

Note: Blocking on shield shown in game is capped at 75% while it may actually be higher. For a true account of most shields blocking ability... Look here forUnique, Set, and Magical/Rare shields. (for magical/rare, add the Blocking % from the suffix to the base blocking)

Note 2: Block chance is divided by 3 after the 75% cap. You can't block more than 25% when running.

Example: A lvl85 Paladin with 100 Dex, Guardian Angel(20%), lvl20 Holy Shield (35%) and a Herald of Zakarum(82%).

Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)]
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (100 - 15)) / (85 * 2)
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / (85 * 2)
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / 170
= (20 + 35 + 82 * (85)) / 170
= (137 * 85) / 170
= 11645 / 170
= 68.5
= 68% Chance to Block

Unless you are building a kicksin for pure caster killing, you should have max block for a SS setup.

If you plan on doing any kick vs kick duels you will get knocked out very fast unless you have block.

While its true barbs and smiters and libbies may seem impossible to newer kicksin players, they can be taken down with widowmaker and having a max block SS switch is what makes kicksins more viable as widowmaker users than wwsins and other shadow disicpline based assassins.

If you choose just to ignore barbs and use kicksin for just caster killing, vita is of course better vs those classes. But you will get picked on in pubs. A lot. People like to bring in barb/libby/smiter after a kicksin rapes their caster. Trust my experience on that.

This is not true. Sure there are kick/trap hybrids out there, however there are reasons for going with a pure shadow discipline having maxed mindblast and 1 ls/wof.
Unless you are playing around with a bowzon (which happens often since block kicksins pk bowzons real easy) the best strategy is not to hang back as you said, but just jump on top of them with shadow stacked and start kicking. Bowzon should be dead very fast, unless they are exceptionally good with desyncing out of stun, even then the match is in the kicksin's favor. Just follow up with mb/traps namelocking and keep jumping on top of them.

I really dont know why you would recommend hanging back vs a bowzon, unless you want to play around with them or something.

Of course.
Well, bowzons can run out of trap stun, so its not like Im trying to completly lock down the zon as I would with a cs zon or something, just partial stun, enough to lock them into evade animation. If you have a bowzon I can show you why kicksins > bowzons.

Hi guys, thanks for all of your valuable feedback. I really appreciate it.

One question: should the Widowmaker you speak of stay in my stash or something?

If you recommend SS on switch, there's (obviously) no way I could have it on switch as well.

I'll let you know my present build plan:

Last Wish Phase Blade
Fortitude Archon Plate
Guillaume's Face
Phoenix Monarch
Trang-Oul's Gloves
Verdungo's Hearty Coil (unless you have a better suggestion)
Shadow Dancer Myrmidon Greaves
Raven Frost (Ring 1)
Unsure (Ring 2)
Unsure (Amulet)

On swap:
Stormshield
Unsure (Weapon)

Any thoughts?

You want to use Enigma and focus on Venom damage, I'm not a kicksin ace but there's a fair amount of info around, try the search function.
