PvP Daggermancer

FOREWARNING: This is NOT a build. This is a MENTAL EXPERIMENT, based upon my rudimentary knowledge of Diablo II. I have never owned or earned an Enigma, Breath of the Dying, or other rich equipment. I'm technically a noob.

I have been recently investigating the viability of a daggermancer. When mentally designing him, I realized that even if a person was able to hit an opponent with some massive poison damage, they would still have to wait over 10 seconds for the full effect to happen, leaving them open to a multitude of different attacks from which almost all would be fatal, as this experimental build focusing on getting the highest possible poison damage. I believe I have found a remedy though; combining max block and 110% faster run/walk speed to avoid just about everything while the poison slowly eats them away.

To start off, I think I should list the skills used.
--Poison Dagger: 20 (most necessary, main skill)
--Poison Nova: 20 (synergy)
--Poison Nova: 20 (synergy, also a potential backup skill)
--Teeth: 1-20 (depending on your +skills, you want to get as many teeth as possible to pick off that last point of health)

The rest is up to you. If you want to get a golem or some other skill, go for it.

Next is some stats.
--Strength: For the gear I am planning to use, 106 will be sufficient. The weapon for this necromancer will be worthless in melee combat, as only the poison will deal the damage.
--Dexterity: VERY important. A minimum of ** for gear, but honestly get this as high as possible. You absolutely REQUIRE max block and AR, as blocking will be one of two sources of defense and AR allowing you to run in, hit once or twice, and KNOW that your poison will hit.
--Vitality: Also important. Any extra points go here to hopefully brace yourself against any attacks that manage to hit you (like pesky blizzards).
--Energy: Not important. I'm not a good build builder, but I don't think any points need to go here at all. Simply apply poison dagger. You might need a little if you find that you need to spam teeth a lot.

Now for some gear. Note that this isn't my strong spot either.
--Weapon: Now, I'm sure there are some wonderful weapons out there that are uber-expensive and godly, but from my poor perspective I see a Exceptional Unique Dagger called Blackbog's Sharp. Why is it any good? It has terrible damage, but remember, we're not looking for damage. It has +5 to poison dagger, and +4 to poison nova and explosion. I do not believe that the points into nova and explosion will give you synergy bonuses, but the +5 to poison dagger is priceless, in my opinion.

--Body Armor, Helm, Gloves, Belt, and Shield: It may sound noobish, but Trang-Oul's really looks nice. I mean, you could replace some of the pieces with some uber-godly items if you wanted too, but with all the +skills and +poison damage and -poison resistance, it is just really, really appealing.

--Amulet: I am split here. Speed is essential in order to dodge stuff, but so is +skills. When this build (if ever) is made, if it appears that additional speed is required, then go with the Cat's Eye for +30% FRW. If not, go with Mara's Kaleidoscope for +2 skills.

--Rings: This is entirely up to circumstance. Facing a cold sorc? Raven Frosts. Lightning Amazons? Wisp Projectors. Fire? Dwarf star. General enemies? Stones of Jordan.

--Boots: I am sure one is out there, but until I find it go with Natalya's Soul for +40% FRW. Combined with Trang-Oul's Scales and Cat's Eye, you should have 110% faster run and walk speed. Zoom.

Ok, that's enough. I am sure that some of the more experiened members on this forum will appear and point out some obvious flaws that could potentially ruin the whole idea, but at least I tried. Your poison damage should be at or over 20k in around 15 seconds, so poke with dagger, spam nova if you want, and then run, run, run to avoid stuff, and then throw teeth everywhere. Enjoy, and please critique!

rather than trangs set, just use the gloves/belt/wing, for +pdam,-pres and cannot be frozen plus other juicy stats. there are much better items for helm/armor.
you need to work in some damage reduction, and figure out what the fastest attainable attack speed would be. the best curse would be decrepify vs melee opponents.

i can possibly see making a pnova/pdagger hybrid, enigma would be completely necessary, as running drops your defense to 0 and blocking to 25%

a much more likely idea to work on would be a lvl 30 pdagger pvp nec.

With such a high FRW speed (110%), do you think I could walk as fast as a character normally runs? That way I could just walk and evade things while maintaining max block.

Heya,

Dagger Poison in PvP?

Very novel way to approach it, but I'm afraid to say that it's completely going to fall short when your opponent goes "lol, check it out, he's pure poison, *buys a few antidote potions*". Not only will you fight stacked resistance, but reduced duration which combined with pvp penalty will turn your massive poison numbers in a laughable moment of green, followed by the realization of "dang...".

Now, I'm not trying to be negative. It's just that building any pvp build around a single attack form that is extremely easy to avoid via: 1) blocking the dagger attack, 2) resistance and pvp penalty, & 3) duration reduction & 4) antidote potions. For PvM, it'll work. For PvP, you're dead before you even get in stabbing range with your range 1 dagger.

You can however, do the job with Poison Nova. If you combine DeathWeb, Trang gloves/belt/shield and some facets with your lower resist curse, and a butt load of faster run walk charms and some max block, you may be able to pull off great kills. Keep decrep & spear handy so you can decrep your victim when they run away drained and peel off the last few HPs with a spear that travels nice and fast while they're moving at "crap, I'm slow" speeds.

Cheers, :sunny:

Thanks for the advice, I'm just trying to come up with a somewhat unique idea. I guess with such an old game, though, all the best possible builds have probably been experimented by now. I guess I'll try Poison Nova, but as usual, members such as yourself run around saying "Get a Death's Web" like its as plentiful as oxygen or something.

`Tis just a few pgems away from being yours.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get uniques in this game. Pgems buy practically everything.

Except those godly items that people demand the equivalent of thousands of pgems in the elusive currency called high runes.

My psn necro has no issues even when they stack res. I'm doing tons of dmg with psn nova regardless, and he's talking about dagger dmg which is way more than my psn dmg.

now I do thing this won't work because your going to die before you hit the person. Realistically Smiters will eat you alive, WW barbs shouldn't have an issue with you (especially if they know how to take advantage of their increased range with their weapons) and you might as well give up with teleport characters.
