PvM Avenger Guide?

I've read Cyrus' guide and it was very helpful - but now I'm hearing things about only putting a few points into conviction - perhaps not maxing vengeance... what is the current "accepted" skill allocation for an Avenger?

I was thinking about:

20 Vengeance
15 Conviction (I'll never have +15 skill gear for only 10)
10 Resist Fire
10 Resist Cold
10 Resist Lightning
20 Holy Shield
Rest in Defiance

How would this hold up? Any suggestions?

The only reason to not max Conviction would be if you were playing with a lot of + skill items. The - enemy resistance benefit of Conviction stop at slvl 25, so if you knew you were going to be playing with +10 skills you would stop at slvl 15. Go ahead and max it if you don't think you will put yourself past slvl 25.

Also, some people do not max Vengence to keep the mana cost down, and instead put more points into the Resist auras for synergy. I think those people should stop being sissies and get more mana leech. You get more damage from putting points into Vengence then you do into the synergies.

My final skill point allocation will look like this:

20 Vengence (around 30 with + skills)
20 Conviction (25 with + skills)
10 Holy Shield
14+ Resist Auras

Some people also prefer to max Resist Lightning before Fire and Cold. I am not sure what the reasoning is here, as there seems to be just as many LI's as there are FI's and CI's in hell.

Well I can't tell you why other people tend to max resist lightning before the other resistances, but personally I do it for the passive max ligtning resist bonus. I feel that higher ligtning resistances is very good against gloams and other hardhitters.

Ahhh... I was thinking offense and didn't consider that side of it. Thanks :)

Can an avenger solo MF well? What zones work best?
Yes. I do the following runs for my avenger:

1. Eldritch & Shenk
2. High Council
3. Countess

These are quick and easy for many characters. You can hit Andy and Mehp as well. Though it might take more time, you can kill more unquie monsters along the way which improve your chance in getting good items.
