Pure Dexazon strafer...

Pure Dexazon strafer...

so I want to build a pure dexazon, all statpoints into dex if possible.
so far it's just an idea in my head, and a lvl 9 zon going through trist runs :p
what I was wondering, is how have you pro's done it before? where do you get your initial strength from? lots and lots of +str smc's? and lots of hell runes socketed into your "Training gear"?

I have bought her a few low lvl +strength items, and gotten her a 2 socket skullcap with 2 perf amethysts in it, and a witherstring, to get her started out. I hope to be able to kill the act bosses with her solo, but leveling her along with help from friendly Bnet'ers, if I had al the gear for each stage, I'd like to play right through the game solo as a pure dex glass cannon :p

whats your beginning setup look like? or do you just get rushed straight through to the lvl you need to equip your gear?

I currently playing a pure dexazon - she is lvl 93 and has about 590 dex - it alot of fun

My heaviest item is GMB faith which requires 108 str.

I get my str mainly from anni (19) and torch (18) and then nosferatus (15), war travs (10) rare ias/bow gloves (15) and rare ml ring (20)

With these items i actually have 117 str - more than enough for GMB and i will look to replace gloves or ring for better ones since i don't require that much str.

This way i dont have to use str charms and can fill up on max/ar/life and max/ar/frw.

looks like normal will be doable as pure dex. once I equip the skullcap at lvl18, I'll have around 53+strength. so only question is, skills.
do I need GA for killing bosses?
so far planning on:
16ish critical strike (65%)
5 pierce (using razortail )
20 strafe
20 FA
20 GA(if needed, otherwise an FA synergy)

and hoping to get an eaglehorn, or a faith Mat bow for end weapon.

if you are going FA then i would not put points in GA but max Cold arrow for synergy. But imo a dexazon doesnt really benefit fully from FA compared to using Multi and Strafe since dex adds to physical dmg. For pi's i just use Magic arrow which is at lvl 12 with +skills - that means 12% physical dmg converted to magic which is enough to kill pi bosses pretty fast.
But FA is definitely viable and also safer because of the freezing effect.

Hunter's Bow 3 socket (Charsi sell these)
Chipped gems for act1, then flawless version for act2.
Make another bow for rogue merc, so she kills fast too.

Death set gloves+belt (lvl6)
gives 30 ias, cannot frozen and 8% life leech and resist.

Cathan mask+ring (lvl11)
gives 15-20 fire +10str and life leech

Angelic Amu+ring (lvl12)
gives +95 life and huge ar boost and 10dex

Twictchroe (uniq armor, lvl16)
gives +10dex +10 str 20ias and nice look

Ravenclaw (lvl15 uniq bow) goes very well together with angelic 15-20 fire bonus.

Those gemmed bows (Hunter bow) is enough for lvl24.
Then Skystrike Kuko WWS etc...

With gemmed bows you can use basic attack so no mana leech needed.
At lvl 24 very good rare bow with mana leech and couple manald rings and you can strife all the time . Or one of those low level runeword bows.
Dexazon dont need rush, kills fast enough while soloing full games.

Kuko Shakaku at level 35 can carry you right through to Act 5 Hell if you're going a Freezing Arrow/Strafer (which it looks like).

A Witchwild String on switch is helpful too - it's deceptively powerful.

As for the actual bow skills:

20 Strafe
20 Freezing Arrow
20 Cold Arrow (FA's damage synergy)
1-5 Multi Shot (you don't want to many here, with a few +bow skills it'll be high enough, and 15 arrows is the absolute maximum you want to go before it starts getting too mana-insensive; there are rarely more than 15 monsters in any given mob you'll come across)
20 Valkyrie (you've got enough skill pts to do so, and a big tank is always welcome in the later stages of Hell)
1 in all other Passives
rest to Penetrate

Try your best to find/trade for a Razortail belt - the 33% pierce allows you to keep the Pierce skill at 1 hard point and still have near-100% or 100% piercing.

changed my plans around a little.
I did some testing of possible endgame bows.

I made a single player char and used an editor to get her quickly up to 85, and put all her points into dex.

of the bows I tried, I found the faith mat bow, and the harmony mat bow, and a silence crusader bows to be the best. WWS did perform "OK" but even pumping all those points into dex, she wouldn't break 1k damage, I know it has the chance to do almost 4 times its listed damage, but when the amp was activated was the only time I felt the bow was usable. and the eaglehorn output less damage per second than the WWS. it would take alot of IAS to make it better than the very cheap harmony bow.

I tried a few different skill setups, and purposely seeked out some PI's.
I found that an unsynergiesed FA was not good enough, and that a maxed out Magic arrow, would do just fine, especially with a might aura merc.
though diablo went down quicker with a maxed GA build, than the maxed MA build, ended up using strafe with that one.
I don't know if GA for boss killing is all that necessary, and think I could go with a max strafe, magic arrow build. or get a reapers toll for my merc to deal with PI's. what do you think?
and what does your endgame setup look like?

one thing that I didn't test was a fully synergiesed FA.

I'm going to make a harmony for leveling, and until I can get a Faith. but still undecided at to the skill points.

16 crit
17 valk
5 pierce
20 strafe
is the base for the build.
gives me enough points left over to max one other skill, almost 2 depending on how high I lvl her.

First, this is the guide I used:
http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=487121

WF + Faith is a fun combo  It lists mostly endgame setup since some of us are lazy and just get rushed through. (my zon was utterly useless till she hit 75 and could use a torch, I was still using artic bow in hell :p)

The only drawback to the WF/Faith combo is that WF takes 133 str.... Because I didn't have an anni or an Andys/Giant with high str, I ended up putting 24 points into str.

I may be in the serious minority here, but I put 5~ points into decoy. Since I don't have a lot of + to skills since I'm using WF, a L6~ decoy just doesn't last long enough when you have 400~ health. It last about one hit from a small group. So I put a few points in, got my valk some more life and now both survive for a decent amount of time. At least until I run into an extra strong/multi shot archer pack that I don't see till I'm dead, didn't even have enough time to cast slow missiles.

For PI's, use atma's if you have it, killing is still slow in a full game, but it's not that bad.

Currently, my relative endgame gear is:
Shael'd WF
Rare +1 ama/str/life/mana circlet, which I'm going to replace with Andy's once I get one
Atma's
Treachery - Going to be replaced with Fortitude fairly soon
War Travs
Raven/Rare +19 STR ring
Gloves are variable, I'm currently using chancies for MF, but once I switch to Fort/Andy's, I'll be using LoH.
Nos Coil - +15 str/IAS/Slow - awesome belt :p

For skills, I haven't fully invested all my skill points yet but...
5 Multi
20 Strafe
5 Decoy
10 Valk
2-3 in all the passives
I still have 19? points left which I will either put in passives (including Valk maybe) or I might try FA just for the temporary freeze. I'm also going to stick more points into crit, since I only have 3 in there now.

Even with my less then perfect setup, I can run the pits in a full game without any trouble, unless I run into a particularly nasty archer pack that I don't notice till it's too late. Haven't tried chaos in a full game, it goes very quickly and safely in a solo game though.

I love my glass cannon, she is great fun, I just can't play her when I'm tired, since even a slight mistake = being very very dead.

I'm not sure how much this helps, since I'm running a very specific setup and she is made to be a chaos/pit runner, not to play through the full game, but I thought I'd post anyway

I made a strafer. Endgame gear looked like this:

Dual Ravens
Cat's Eye Amu
Um'd Andy's Visage
CoH
Faith GMB
Gores/War Travs (couldn't decide)
Crafted KB 2passive 20IAS gloves
mana leech belt (set item)

Dexers are insanely fun.
