Procrastination... and you!

Projects and finals are cramming and I find myself still procrastinating.

How do you deal with it?

If I was you, I'd say to myself, "I gotta get my priority straight man, *deleted* school, Whooohoooo GUITAR!!!"

All you have to do is bypass the word filter with that word again and you will have even more time for that guitar.

2 choices:

start working now and get a decent quality job done

or

wait until the last week and pull several all nighters and get a bad job done

simple.

I just figure out how long it's going to take me, add in the number of hours of sleep I can get by with the night before, and count backward from when I run out of time to work on it. Rationalization at its finest.

Procrastination is like masturbation. In the end you're only screwing yourself....but on the other hand.....why do today what we can put off until tomorrow? I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility of new technologies, astounding discoveries and a reprieve of my obligations.

I did a public speech on procrastination in high school and went all the way to the nationals. I actually stood on stage for about two minutes picking at my sweater and looking at my nails before I started talking. People thought it was hilarious.

I find that getting away from my computer and any places I hang out for "fun" helps tremendously. I usually hang out at some cafe or library to do problem sets and stuff.

On the other hand, if your work requires a computer, there are other problems, but yeah.

publius: Yeah the project that I am currently working on requires the computer. Ive already planned all of the work done, I just have to put it in words. I've had about three weeks as well, I've only started typing it today. Got a day left. I'll also need the text edited by people. Our prof is real picky on the language.

mhl12: yes, but its always easier said than done?

Once you get hooked on procrastination, its so hard to get back on track. The only true solution I had found that worked for a short period of time was get a part time job. Other than that, yes going to the library would be the best option.

5Ws: Yeah, I started playing 8-ball pool a few months ago ever since I found the Engineering common room. Thats where a third of my procrastination is spent. The other 2/3s, guitar and the OTF. =/

Tor: Uh... I am proud of you?

AeroJonesy: ..... I can put a shirt on all by myself. :cheesy:

Isolde212: Ive heard that saying before. Unfortunately, I find it amusing but hsa no impact on me. The speech must have been awesome. I am sure a lot of people were able to relate to it too, high school was so laid back. I think the problem is I still have that mentality. I've always done things at the last minute and got good marks for it. But ever since I went to McGill, things werent that simple anymore. =/

cyclotronic: I wish luck to the both of us.

On another note, the very first guitar song I learned: The birthday theme song! I played it for my mom yesterday. I can almost play Lullaby by Pedro the Lion without any problems. Thanks to onionfarm for the recommendation!

edit: A little story with pool that happened just a few days ago.
I broke, 4 solids and 1 stripe went in. The cue ball remains on the
table. Crazy!
But wait, theres more!
One of the solids was the 8-ball!
Score! However... oh nos!
We were playing cutthroat.

*cries*

Oooo, I hate Cutthroat, worst game ever.
I remember when I was still a "noob" at pool, and went to an 8-ball competition, first game, when they announced who I'm playing, everyone told me that the guy is crazy good. I kinda go scared. Second shot he took, knocked the 8 in, there I was, not even a minute into the game, went up to the score keeper and said,
"I won..."
"Jeez, that fast, wow! Who did you play?"
I told him his name, and he looked at me for at least 20 secs...and finally blurted out, "You beat him...IN A MINUTE???!!!"

I'm in the same boat. Mid-terms coming up on Saturday and I've just started reading some of the chapters assigned 6 months ago.

Ok I'm going to try study again now.

PS: It's better to do bit by bit than nothing at all. I've made a good two hours today but that was like with 1000000 interruptions.

Mmm...maybe later

I, too, like to procrastinate but I find the only way to deal with it is to bore yourself to death so anything that you didn't want to do before will look good by comparison.

Here's how I work it: I stay up to all hours of the morning, telling myself I'm going to start working at any minute, and I have to stay up so that I do. Then I go to bed without doing it, several hours later than I should have. That way everyone loses, and I win.

No really. For some strange reason, it lessens the guilt I usually can't sleep through.

I do a BETTER job under pressure then when i start something way before in advance.

Procrastination 4 teh win

I kept thinking about reading this procrastination thread, but didn't get around to it until now.
I have something to say about it, though.
