Problems Power Leveling a Friend

My friend was showing new interest in D2 so I decided it would be cool to power level him.

I hopped on my level 78 Sorc and we get a new game going. By the time I had done every quest in A1, he was just barely even level 2.

We decide that maybe it was my henchy that was skewing the xp. I went to a hell game and got my henchy killed and came back.

Xp is a little better now, but we are still an hour in worth of Trist runs and random killing along the way and he is not quite level 10.

What gives? Is there a min level he needs to be? Am I over some xp cap.

The difference in your levels is what is causing problems. Were you closer in level then your friend would gain experience faster. As you get closer things will speed up and you friend will level at a decent pace.

Also the difference in charlevel and arealevel is a problem. The bigger the difference, the more hefty the penalty. Ofcourse there's a balance somewhere in between where you can optimally enjoy from large amounts of experience even with big penalties appiled (one being Chaos running on Hell).

Do you know how what the 'usual' way of leveling on Bnet is? Or aren't we talking Bnet here?

edit: this should help you on your way. Remember that 8 player games make leveling go MUCH faster. Especially if the levelees are in the same level range as you.

Yeah, we are doing US East Ladder characters. I haven’t played much since this season started (the D2 content patch thread got us interested in playing again).

All my characters were expired but luckily my sorc was still retrievable. I would have probably run him with my 44 nec but he’s lost unfortunately.

The only other character in range is my 20 Amazon but she has zero gear and the extra time it takes to do anything overshadows the benefits. Especially with how fast my sorc kills in normal.

We got him to 12 tonight, and I think I’ll run him through the quests in A2 and do tombs.

I think the only problem is that it just felt so slow, but I can remember doing Baal runs and going from like 40-70 in an hour or so. Think I should just sprint him to normal Baal? I was honestly hoping to hit something like 30 this evening but that isnt panning out.

12-16 - Arcane runs

16-20 - Tomb runs

20-24 - Cow runs

24-25 - Ancients

25 onwards - Baal runs

Try to get the runs to be an 8 player game to get the highest experience.
