    Polearm Barb - Help Please

So I'm pretty much starting out again with this game (I lost my disc a while back, so all the characters expired, then I recently found it again), but I was never particularly good.

Anyway, I've always liked Polearm Barbarians, and I used to have one as my only really decent/good character - so I decided to make a new one. I have pretty atrocious gear - except maybe for Bonehew? - because I only have what I've found with this one character (my only character currently).

By the way, it's a WW barb, with maxed WW, BO, and Polearm Mastery (on the USEast Ladder).

What should I try to do with this character? What's some good gear that I will actually have a chance to get? I'm basically looking for any help and advice that you are willing to give.

Bonehew will definitely get the job done, especially if you stick two Shaels in there to hit the last breakpoint.

    Other cheap-ish gear to consider:

    Guillaume's Helm
    Duriel's Shell, 'Duress' runeword armor
Bloodfist, Laying of Hands, IK Gauntlets*
String of Ears, Bladebuckle, IK Belt*
    Waterwalks, IK Boots*

*IK items together give some nice partial set bonuses.

    Less-cheap gear to shoot for:

    Arreat's Face
    Highlord's Wrath
ethereal 'Breath of the Dying' Great Poleaxe
    'Fortitude' runeword armor
    TGod's, Verdungo's
    Gore Riders

I always liked WW Barbs for doing Travincial runs since you can Find Item the corpses.

    Thanks for the reply.

Would 15% IAS jewels work just as well as Shaels in Bonehew? I could get 2 Shaels (I've already found one...), but I'd save them if it makes no difference (if it makes any difference at all, I'll use the Shaels).

I think both options hit the last breakpoint, though I'm still a little foggy on what that means...

Yup, two 15%IAS Jewels should do. An Ogre Axe needs 60% (actually 59%) to hit the last breakpoint.

That's what I thought, but will the extra 10% IAS from 2 Shaels matter at all?

EDIT: I just found a second Shael rune, should I put them both in the Bonehew? Or should I save them for a different use?

Not likely. The additional 10%IAS won't help your WW speed at all because you'll already be at the maximum speed, but the extra IAS may (depending on how much IAS you have from other gear) help your Zerk or Conc speed. Check out an IAS calculator if it's a big deal.

umm...i'm not so sure about that... i have a polebarb that uses pretty much the "not-cheap" gear listed above...i think arreat summit is wrong about the base speed on ogre axe and it's +10....so you do really need 2 shaels (30 already there, + 40, so 70% ias needed). this is what i was told when i first built around bonehew...i'll see if i can find the thread. either way, good luck with the barb.

    EDIT: here it is... http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=458075
ANOTHER EDIT: it's near the bottom, scroll down a ways.

Well that's interesting, thanks much. I'm glad I used the Shaels now...

Ogre axe is a [0] base speed weapon. Both normal (Bardiche) and exeptional (Lochaber Axe) are base speed [10]
