Poison Explosion... Does radius increase with sLVL

I know way back when I played a Necro, Poison explosion went from from being a small poof of green at sLVL 1 to being an ever expanding cloud at slvl 20+ similar to the poison catapult's radius in the bloody foothills.

So far I have made it to clvl 45 and slvl ~22 w/ item bonus... it still seems no larger than it was before. Did the newest patch change this skills increase in radius along with slvl. If so this skill is about useless. Its a shame too... by the numbers... Poison Exp. does more damage per second than any other poison spell in the game(after full synergy from other skills)... and doesn't stop after it hits a target like Poison nova does.

Any help or concrete information from a poison necro would be appreciated,

I think I recall the poison expanding as well, but I agree with you, now poison explosion really has lost all use except as an absentee killer.

i ran some numbers a while ago and didn't find this to be true. I'll check again and get back to you later...it was my conclusion at the time that PN does more damage per second...

For some reason I missed that part of your post, no, poison nova is the most damage/second poison spell in the necro's repetuar

specifically, according to chippydip:
slvl 20 fully synergized:
PN: 1781-1953 2 seconds
PE: 8190-9870 9.8 sec....1671-2014 2 sec.
PD: this has same duration as PE so we can just look and see that its much lower

ok higher max but nothing to write home about. averages:
PN: 1867
PE: 1842

so PN is higher

lets say +15 all:
PN: 4687-4859
PE: 35490-38220 15.6 sec...4550-4900

averages:
PN:4773
PE: 4725

same situation as above.

Nova is most persecond- Explosion is much more over all damage.

You might not think it's much of a difference but I've knocked out Baals minions with only PE and bone walls without taking a hit. I'd get hit if I relyed upon nova.

Yes, but as the poster pointed out the overall problem with explosion is not the damage, but the radius. If it's a group it's about better just to amp and bang that corpse off with a corpse explosion. Poison Explosion does have it's uses at times, as it'll save you from novaing too often in certain circumstances (like a bossfight or a tough unique group), in some circumstances one would (Wall or attract if no skells +) LR + PN (corpse drops) + PE + Amp + CE, rather than (Wall or attract if no skells +) LR + Nova + AMP + CE like in most cirmumstances, so I keep it hotkeyed right next to CE, but CE is the big backspace and PE is the little +/=. The problem that CE and PE share is their corpse dependancy, but CE's radius increases, explosions does not (any longer) :(

Hopefully in future patches we'll see a revision to this.

Also as I noted it's a great absentee killer (boss fights such as andy who is surrounded by monsters (aka corpses ;) )), and I'd use it against Diablo Clone over nova, as he can be decrepified as that poison eats him away :D

As I see it, explosion frees you of the micromanagement of nova, but at the sacrifice of range.

no I agree that the situation should dictate your choice between nova and explosion.

Another situation in which you might use PE is in multiplayer games where CE won't kill from one corpse. Get a corpse or two and the PE and CE combo's are very deadly in multiplyer games... And in 6+ player games that extra poison damge is needed likewise the lower mana cost of Poison Explosion as well (especially if you're useing CE).

The bug with PE with radius can be well annoying. Even if a mob is well within the radius of the "poison cloud" it doesn't necessary always register a hit/affect.

With the longer duration from PE you have to be remember to not reset the timer by using other poision skills like PN. Normally have to wait for the full duration to allow the overall damage to take affect. :(

And that is why I use the bonewalls with baals minions, not to attract them but to buy a few a seconds, It can take em awhile to take down a prebuffed CG and few bonewalls.
