Point Investments??

Hi all,

Read the excellent Skelemancer guide n the strat comp.....so I went ahead and made one, currently at lvl74 with 11 skill points saved so far.

My skills are as follows

RS max
SM max
SR 10
1 in all curses and pre reqs

atm im wearing

COH archon
Maras
Gloomtrap
gloves- some rare crap
Sandtrek boots
Homonculus
2 x BK wedding bands
1 x Anni

My question is....where could i effectively spend my remaining points?...bearing in mind i wish to continue lvling this guy well into the 90's
I am leaning towards getting some marrow walks then maxing BS...or is there an alterative?? I think 1 point in CE that i already have is enough with my +skills.

Thanks.

I think one of the big problems you have (unless you're playing pvp with this guy) is that you've spent 10 points in Summon Resist. It's a terrible waste of points.

You have +9 skills according to the gear you listed. If you had 1 point in SR, you would have + 57 Resist all. With the 19 points you'll have in SR with your 10 points invested, you'll have + 65 Resist All. That's 9 skill points to get +8 resist all. That's why I stick with just 1 point.

You could do Bone Spirit + Marrows, that would be the direction I'd take since I like the marrowwalk for its addition to Bone Armor anyway. I like having my CE up to about level 15 after skills, so you may want some more points there. The extra radius makes a big difference (depending on where you play most).

Yeah thanks Genx.......i was starting to think that the 10 points in SR was a bit of a waste...i hear diminishing returns.....hmmmm

It's not like this guy is having any trouble in hell, quite the contrary....in act2 right now and just walking through nice and easy....but i hate the fact that i may have wasted some points in the heat of lvling....
I may just go the way of the marrows and hope for around 2k BS dmg?? (just to drop that 1st corpse and help with boss killing)

Oh forgot to mention, just got my hands on arachnid mesh belt too.

man i tell you what, ihave a lvl 90 summoner with 23 points left.. and im still asking the same question. ive done like 1 or 2, possibly maybe 3 in summon resist (idi have to check to be sure), but other than that, i have just straight summons and just the necessary curses, and im totally doing fine in hell (especially when partied).

ive thought about getting some boen spear or spirit (i could probably max one of those with 23 points), but i dont think it would do enough dmg to matter.

ive thought about maxing out a golem, but i dont really think i need that either.

*edit* correction... it looks lke i put :scared: 13 points in summon resist!! hAHAA and at lvl 90 i still have 23 left. http://www.dfwlp.com/~jhorne/pics/diablo/Abemelek/20041020/Screenshot002.jpg

That's why I maxed corpse explosion and mages --- it's not like there is a huge shortage of skillpoints. Still having a few left now, at clvl 90...

Bone Spirit is a great choice, just as long as you do get some marrows to boost it up. It's a real saver in places like maggot lair & arcane sanctuary.

Do mages get a whole lot of benefits from more points? I have level 15 with plus skills (with one natural point) and level 34 or so in skeletal mastery. Both of those could be a bit higher if I switched to plus skill gear. I have a level 2 (w/o bonus points) clay golem that I use and my character is level 90. Would it be better to invest in the golem or the mages?

It depends on what you want to do or rather what kind of build your following.

Personally i wouldn't recommend putting more than 1 point into Clay and GM as anymore imo would be a waste. With good +skill you shouldn't have anythig to worry about as his HP as it fairely high at Hell difficulty.

Mages is a good option for additonal firepower. Single mage might not be too powerful but if you manage to get a barrage of necro missles at a single target. You be surpirsed. It works particularly well if you have higher slvl for S-mages and SM.

I like mages just because they're a distraction, and they're like moving bone armor. If you're going the way of maxing CE, Mages is the way to go with the remaining points. If you want to maximize bone spear/spirit, I think skimping on mages and a bit in CE is necessary.

Well good news on the Marrowalks front,

managed to get a pair for free.....odd thing, the guy agrees to trade a pair for my sandstorm treks.....we trade, he then drops my boots that i just gave him, then leaves game. Im thinking are these things duped or what??.Turns out they're fine, only the +1 variety but who cares, my BS is now 2.1k which drops em easy even in hell for that 1st corpse----> Which has solved my point allocation problems now, ended up maxing BS.....i think i will invest a few into either GM or mages......after reading some post above perhaps GM is a bad idea....hmmm
Lvl 82 now, so another 10 or so points to go until he is assigned MF duties. :winner:
