Play as a monster

Thats a feature I desire for basicly every game.
I mean thats so easy to let people play as monsters. The model is already in the game. Just for fun.

Id love to play as some sand leaper in diablo2 or as an oblivion knight.
All they need to do is to adjust the monster strenght to the level.

Sure those monsters are much more simple and thereby weaker, than real and literally skillfull characters but whatever?
There still would emerge a competitive community where everyone only plays as a monster.

And by making those monsters really weak and handicaped in comparisson to real characters would prevent the game from turning into a stupid zoo.

I mean, thats a cool idea, but i think playing as monster sort of goes against the core of the game.

You are a Human hero sent to kill Diablo and is hellspawn...

So unless there is a demon who has "risen" and is a playable character... i wouldnt count on ever being able to play as a monster.

it would be fun to slaughter monsters who had some actual intelligence
or to attempt the be the one burning dead archer smart enough to take down that silly necro who isn't paying attention to his own life

Blizz said all char are humans.
But I would like to see more of D2 Full Trang Oul Set, which transforms you into a monster. That's cool

Like what about all monsters and demons are enslaved by the evil will of the great demons and once in a while some of them can break free.
Enraged about having been manipulated and used these ugly but consious being join forces with the humans.

In d2 all monsters have a "soul" and can be ressurected or persuaded.

yeah, and how about a runeword which makes you shapeshift into ANY monster?
such stuff...


An other thought:
how about the old necro from d2 is still alive and in the game but not as a playable character but just an NPC who has learned the art of summoning monsters and demons and can now sell any monster from d2 for you as mercenary!

They tossed this idea around for Diablo II but it eventually got canned because there really wasn't a point to it.
Maybe in a PVP mode (like in the previously mentioned L4D), but I don't see a need for this otherwise.

Maybe you could be an angel, good demon, or actual characters of the story like Vizjerei, Adria, or Cain. Furthermore, why not have a class that allows you to mimic, ditto, other monsters?

Definitely agree, if they're going to implement this feature, this is the way to go. You get the visual effect of being a monster and you still get all of your skills at your disposal.

Interesting idea, however I think the whole concept of playing evil goes against the very fibers of Diablo III's lore. Unless, you can play as the evil to fight the evil, perhaps a Witch Doctor spell that possesses a monster, granting it added power.

Yes ofcourse I meant as monsters AGAINST monsters.
Just switch a bit from 0 to 1 and there you have tons of fun.
Maybe only let people choose monsters after they have mastered hell difficulty.

Median, a mod for Diablo 2, lets you do that in two situations. You can become Diablo and Baal and fight off the good people with all of your already existing skills.
