    Plastic causing cancer!!

So I log off my hotmail and notice this interesting link:

    http://healthandfitness.sympatico.m...=5&showbyline=False&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc

    Plastic, cancer linked?

    ------------------------------------

You see, plastic into the garbage can, as I TRULY BELIEVE, causes avian bird flu because of the birds eating food mixed with plastic. Very harmful chemicals are found in plastic.

so I'm not a big fan of the garbage and am a true nature fanatic, tree hugger, lover of all life :D

I thought by putting my lunches in plastic containers and washing after getting home would reduce "some" garbage, which it has, but this article freaks me out!!! the plastic from my glad tupperware, can it be causing cancer, the cells of the plastic can be giong onto the food and into our mouths?¿

All of you will be like.... that's all myth, just like how they say vehicles cause the ozone to deplete, which causes skin cancer eh ;) and that's why I don't drive, and hope to never drive hehe. I just wish some people had the same believes as me, or atleast leaning my way, but guess what, I don't need a vehicle to follow My King, My Father, The Passion!!! oh yeah baby! :)

thoughts, questions, well appreciated. Danka shane, and keep off the flames please kthx :)

It's only a matter of time before everything gets linked to cancer. Statistics generally employs a p-value of 0.05, meaning that 5% of the time you'll find a correlation even if one doesn't actually exist - so if you're running thousands of blind scientific studies about cancer you're bound to find a heap of things that "cause" it...

I was under the impression that anything causes cancer because all objects radiate energy and molecules. Help, I'm being irradiated by the wood in my desk! AUGH!

or you can call the thread title "water is wet"

complex hydrocarbons causing cancer? no surprise here

unfortunately bureaucracy and propaganda can make any environmental threat look laughable so we can happily continue to poison ourselves

    yay

Due to 2/3 of the Earth being contaminated with di-hydrogen monoxide, no crops can grow there. Why are we concerned with plastics when so much of the earth is contaminated?

Unfortunately, environmentalist propaganda can blow any threat out of proportion, and have us happily destroying things that save many, many lives every day.

    Like . . . plastics, for instance.

I thought this has been common knowledge for some time now.

There is a special group of chemicals called phtalates that are especially linked to cancer. They are used to make plastics soft, so they have a nasty tendency to end up in small childrens' toys where they are a big concern.

That said, you can be pretty sure that cancer is a disease for which there will never be a preventive cure. Life, in the long run, is pretty carcinogenic. But that does not mean that we shouldn't at least try to stack the odds a bit in our own favour.

There's a difference between finding stuff out and knowing it as common sense beforehand.

I mean, christ, plastic is not a naturally occuring thing in nature. It's a bunch of chemicals mixed together with other chemicals.

I was commenting on the 'how the hell do they find this stuff out' comment. Let me edit the quote. There.

As for your question, ask shacktack. He mentioned it, not me.
