    PKing... what is it?

Well, I have playing Diablo for about a year and a half, but I still do not know what exactly PKing is.

As I understand it, in hardcore it means killing someone elses character.

But then I see people talking about killing level 71 characters with their level 30 characters, and I began to wonder how this was possible.

So for anyone out there nice enough, would you please explain what PKing is, and also how lvl 30 characters are able to kill lvl 70 characters.

    Thanks.

Wheee! that was me talkin about killing a 71 with my 30.
pking is player killing, usually means where one player hunts another, not a mutually agreed fight, aka a duel.

The reason this is possible, is that the pker is specially equipped with optimal gear specifically designed to kill other characters, whereas the people they hunt, the higher levels are not designed to fight people.

the time i killed the 71 with my 30 was in a dueling game, and the 71 was some mf sorc thinking he would harass us all, so I got my level 30 charger (cheesey build, i know, but look who i fight with it) to get rid of him, he was standing by the bloodmoor/town entrance, obviously waiting for someone to go out, so I popped out, he hostiled, but i was ready for it, so I turned on him and 2 hit koed him.

How did I manage this? I had items with LOTS of +max dmg jewels in them, most about 14 max, so i was doing a LOT of damage per hit, my weapon was an upgraded near perfect bonesnap, over 300 damage max iirc.

a Pker will put his skills into lower level skills (assuming a low level pk) so he is optimized to kill at a low level, like my 30, he had maxed might, rest in charge, which equals big damage, which means a dead 71 sorc.

yep, Matt summed it up pretty well. Simply put pking is killing another character that is not in a duel.

Most pkers who go after high levels with lower characters are fully decked out to maximise killing their 1 target. For example: would you think a level 24 necromancer has any hope in killing a lvl 91 barbarian? Its been done, and it took ~5 or so seconds.

Highest ear I've gotten was a 99 sorc with my 52 pally back in 09. Considering I spent 5 min just hunting and tracking this sorc down I think it was a hard earned ear. The build, like most of mine was specialised to look harmless until they discovered I was picking up their ear off the ground. You'd be suprised at how many people thought I was an easy ear because when the mh'ed me they saw that I had no armor, no belt, no gloves, and no ring. In actual fact I had all of those, but used an old trick regarding str requirements and the weapon switch. I didn't actually have a second ring which I didn't notice until a while later. :)

The boots that I had gave me str to wear my shield, which let me wear my weapon, which let me wear my belt and armor, which let me wear my gloves. :)

Thus I weaponed switched to my decoy gear aka "crap". No str requirement for the belt/armor/gloves so they turned red. Red items are not worn and thus do not appear on your character. Because scanning gear works through interpreting what you are wearing (item info is sent, because thats how the game client knows what graphic and color to draw on the screen), by not wearing the items (aka reded out) the item doesn't appear at all if you scan it.

What I did was taun them and then get "loose" the fight with my amazing crystal sword of quickness, low end gaze, gore-riders and kite shield of deflecting. heal up at akara (never going near my stash), and walk back outside. At this stage they think I am totally crap and come out to kill the "noob pally who talks too much crap", where I hit my switch key, and kill them easily.

I got called a cheater for using a "bugged" shaft. I'm sorry Mr Dead person but my skill + game knowlege > you and your cheats :D

Most fun I had with this build was taking him out and pking in hell. So much fun going 3v1 or 4v1 against level 80+ characters. Not so many kills because of chicken, but by damn i had alot of fun, and fluxed so many people.

Not to mention pking trigger users in the cow level with a nasty build. Most trigger users I noticed didn't use chicken on hostile and instead chicken on life.

"Hello Mr Pker. Here....meet Mr Beef with his level 30 vigor, 20+ might, 20 or so blessed aim, 30 concentrate and 30 fanat. Actually meet his friends too. You're so kind to provide them with the might so thank you."

    *insert evil grin here*
