Pit vs meph items

I read a post a few days ago about drops from meph and pit. So today I looked up the lvls of the monsters, and meph is higer than anything in the pit. but someone in the thread said that meph can't drop a few top uniques, like arach, azurewrath, and tyrael's might. why is that?

drops are affected by area level and monster level

the pit has an area level of 85, while meph has a sec drop of TC 87 max. the info the person gave you was wrong, or he was confused a bit, since meph can't drop items that are higher than tc 78, like WF GF IK armor tal armor steelrends and some more. meh can drop azurewrath tho ;)

Tamoe Highlands.

And Meph has a lower Mlvl than the monsters in the pit, as well as a lower TC, every item can drop in the pit, even Tyraels.

some things i know:

meph can drop arachnid mesh.

the pit is good for experience, and is not very dangerous. you don't need high resists, although you will encounter dark archers. it's a nice change of pace from meph or baal runs. and yes, i found ik armor there. big whoop.

yea i noticed the pit was good for experience too, it's safe, and even if you don't get uniques (which seems to be most of the time for me), you'll still be able to sell some stuff for a lot of gold :)

I've heard of TCs and I know a little bit about how it works, but I'm not sure about which monsters have which TC and all. About the level of meph, I got my info off d2data.net, and it shows meph at lvl 87 i think, while nothing in the pit is over 86. Or something along those lines.

Can anyone point me to a thread or other source about ilvl, alvls, mlvls and what not? I'm quite confused after reading numerous other posts about charms.

but...that's the site I HAVE been looking at. maybe I'm just stupid then. They have some of the info there, but I don't think it has complete ilvls and alvls and what not do they?

My friends do pit runs with 0 mf
They said they always get good normal items (trade for good to those who need gears for runewords) EVERY run
My sorc is too weak to do pit runs, but anyone tried that?

I have long given up running Meph in Hell, not because he is a problem kill or that his drops are pants but because I don't teleport in MF runs (I could do).
The killing on the way to Meph doesn't yield much.
The trip through WSK is much more productive, if you can call a Boneshade with the worst possible mods possible productive :) and The Pit is easy, safe and can drop anything as you can in WSK.
Instead of Meph I do Diablo runs which are about as easy as The Pit for my Hammerdin.

Now here's a man with my taste :). I love doing chaos runs with my hammerdin and I don't even do them for mfing purposes as he only has the 50 mf off of shako. It yields me anywhere from 10-15 million exp a run (i'm lvl 86 right now) and can drop the same items as the pit or wsk so I'd suggest giving them a try if any of you use hammerdins for mfing (they are one of the few chars who can do chaos easily and quickly). If you don't use hammerdins then just stick with what you are doing now and pray for the best :).

Hammardin is not the only char who can do well in these areas. My boazon is very fast and very secure as well. The only problem in Chaos sanctuary is IM and only meele chars suffer it - otherwise it´s just very easy and very rewarding area - along with Halls of Destruction.
