Re: pit trouble

dont expect to see a uniques drop every run , i can go many runs without seeing 1, but let it be known that when one does drop, it can be a very nice one!
lower magic find = more socketables to , and some socketables = more wealth then uniques...
fast kills = more runs = better chance to get what you are looking for .. hope that helps

1st rule of hunting for items in diablo 2: You will never find what you are looking for (99.99%), but you might find something you don't need that is very nice, so try trading.

2nd rule: killing speed is paramount.

3rd rule: hunt multiple areas. you have a 99.99% chance to go insane if you hunt the same areas/bosses.

For hunting uniques try these various methods:

1) Quest bugging act bosses. Repeatedly getting quest reward will yield many uniques, provided you can kill said act boss quickly, and repeatedly.

2) Use a 250%+ magic find barbarian with find item skill and kill every unique creature and champion and pop its corpse.

3) Don't bother. Get zero magic find and become a socket-finder. It is very easy to find nice white, socketed, and ethereal items quickly in wide area killing (pits and other high level areas). Trade these for your currency and uniques.

QFT

Pits is always hit or miss for me, but I've found enough good stuff to keep checking back there.

You may be surprised how much some of the socketed items will go for.

You have to do something like 100 complete clears before you can expect results which are at least a bit statistically relevant. 8 runs aren't really much and it's not uncommon not to find a single unique. Even if you would, 95% of them are the usual mediocre stuff which you can as well find when visiting hell Mephisto a dozen times. The chance for uniques in the Pits or in the other high-level areas isn't higher than anywhere else, but there is a small chance that you find highest quality uniques.

Regarding MF, time is money and summon necros aren't really speedy MFers. They surely have no problems to clear the Pits, but they are slow at that. If you are playing a summon necro for the fun and you are happy about finding useful things every now and then, everything is OK, as that's the true point of the game, but if fun means finding as many nice items as possible, either for using them or for trading or just for hoarding, you should use a different character or visit a different area. Summon necros are good in crowded areas where you can blow up whole screens full of monsters with corpse explosion after your minions have made a few kills.

Re: pit trouble

yep sockets can go for a good price 5 soc pbs, 4soc flails, eth zerks, eth aps, eth poles, etc are worth possibly a hr or more if coupled with decent mods. Definitely watch out for those socketables.
