Pit Etiquette

Well, I read McGee's list of awesome results from Pit runs (grats on that  ), and since my other char was struggling a bit, I decided to run the pit with my PS sin. It is good stress relief, and I might get an item or two. I did fine on /players 1, so now I currently run at /players 5, and take about 7-8 minutes a run with my normal gear (since I am melee, I kind of need to keep it :p). So, I have a few questions:

1) Should I bother with anything besides monsters in the pit? ie I run straight to it and not kill anything else.

2) When I get to the pit, to I explore it all, or do I go straight to lvl2 (killing along the way of course)?

3) Now the exp isnt too bad per a run on p5, but is me thinking of getting items with no MF on me just kidding myself? Or to rephrase that, should I just stick to WSK? Since I can get items there and the exp is most likely better, I guess it might be better (besides Gloams of course :p)

I guess that is all for now.

Yea those and what is the best players setting for the item/kill ratio? those runs take 7 to 10 minutes on x4, depending on what wants to kill me. not exactly speedy :cheesy:

Ya, they can take some time, but it is fun to kill with this char, and I am only lvl 82 (just lvled) so boss packs can give me some decent exp. I can get 1/6th of a level with a run, so I ain't complainin'.

1. Yes I kill everything in The Pit. I am not sure what is was, but I was in a room with Shaman Fallen and Fallen...after the carnage an Andariel's Visage awaited! Plus the XP is grand.

2. Lvl 1 and 2 are just as good as each other. Lvl 2 is just a little more packed.

3. I honestly think you're running the Pit with the wrong character, if you cannot at least load on some MF...the more the merrier they say.

my old hardcore ladder javazon on bnet leveled from like level 73? - 92 doing the pit, my friend did like level 87 i think in baals :D so exp is good, and i found tons and tons of stuff, also, pick up amulets, because one i picked up on accident, a magic one was +3 fire skills +98 life, i shat myself right there on the spot

Alright, thanks. I have been wanting to make an MF sorc, but I just haven't gotten in the mood for it. I have 3 chars that are throughout the game, 2 of which are in Act 2 norm.

All I have got from 5 runs is The Iron Jang Bong Staff, Soulflay, and Sigon's Shield...

My MF MeteOrb sorc is camped in Act I. As soon as she arrived there she made camp!

Heh, nice. My only problem with sorcs is the slow start through norm. Also, this time around in D2, I dont want to have too many chars. I have 3 active chars right now, and if I start losing focus, that means I am most likely going to stop playing, and that cant be good :p

I prefer playing MP most of the time, but I always seem to be one quest off of where people are playing. Anyone want to MP right now? I do :D

run the pits on highest player setting possible that still gives you ok killing speed, for the runes, gold, charms, jewels and oh yeah, items (got one Horizons Tornado from a simple, regular imp)

on players 1 only if you want to find Tyraels Might, hehe, cause only the unique monsters can drop that and they always drop one item, no matter what players setting

What is /players1 and /players5?
A command for simulating having more players in-game... it causes the monsters to have more life, but also give more experience and more drops.

You type it into the chat window (hit enter):

/players x

where x is any number between 1 and 8. On /players 8 monsters will have 450% HP and give 450% experience compared to one-player games.

This only works in Single Player, TCP/IP, and Open (ie. not on Realms).

I don't think the pit has any advantages over WSK apart from being a bit easier, thus allowing more MF gear to be worn and meaning you can kill monsters faster. So if you're not finding it any easier, you probably might as well run WSK for the experience, especially if you can do Baal runs.

Personally I prefer WSK, simply because I've found 3 TC 87s there and none in the pit. I realise that could just have easily have happened the other way around, but hey, a little superstition can't be that bad a thing, can it?

1) Just run to Pit and kill monsters there, baddies you meet on your way aren't worth killing

2) Clear the whole place. Unique/champs drops most but sometimes normal monsters drop very nice items

3) Depends on your killing speed. p8 Pit will give you more exp that p1 WSK, thats for sure. WSK can be much more difficult but if you can handle it with nice MF and reasonable speed even on higher players setting, why not to go there?

I've not been bothering with full clears lately, for my fishymancer, as I run on p3...my map is almost immediate to level2 and there's two boss packs (usually) in the way. CE works so much nice when they're all packed together...I don't find as much, but I get more runs of uniques and as I want TC 84/87 who cares about those hard to reach places if I get more drops from unique monsters.

If I wanted to do full clears, I'd make a strafezon or use my hammerdin.

Baal runs are where its at, better xp, more fishy compatible...

I never had much luck in the pit, I can go 20 runs straight, 3 repeats, without seeing anything worthwhile. On the other hand, pindle/thresh/eldrich/shenk run netted me a green ward and spired helm, and gold myrmidon greave in about an hour, so I think I'll stick to that, and meph/diablo/baal runs. :)

Good luck with the Sacred Armor. I've had 3 drop for me in the Pit, one normal and one socketed. Once. :grrr:
I run between p4 and p6 depending on my level of patience. I must have done about 50 runs so far and I haven't gotten squat. I believe I only smiled once when an extra Demonhide Sash dropped. That's sad.
They base item type drops are amazing sometimes but my luck in there is diddly. Nice seed though. I hit unique monster/champ packs at just the right interval all the way from the entrace of Pit1 down to Pit2.
I'm running with ~350 MF and barely positive resists. I've been toying with the idea of swapping my Vipermagi for a Wealth to give me a beefy 450 or so. So far Im disappointed so maybe taking the extra risk with negative resists will pay off. I don't mind dying a few times for a nice TC87.
