PIRACY (not copyright stuff, REAL PIRACY)

Re: PIRACY (not copyright stuff, REAL PIRACY)

No actually study of how the brain works, psychology is the study of behavior.
It is the behavior of the pirates which is the problem. Nobody will ever invent an anti-piracy pill/vaccine.Studying the brain may one day cure brain cancer, depression etc. though.
People become pirates because making an honest living in Somalia is very difficult. These young guys see how rich some pirates have become, and see this as a way out of poverty, just as others take dangerous jorneys on flimsy boats to get to europe. But to try something like that, the pay-off must be worth the risk.
Whether your dog will steal your steak will depend on how often he has gotten away before, the chance of not being caught, and whether he thinks the steak is worth the punishment/ effort. If he is hungry, he is much more likely to try.
This is common sense, and needs no brain science. Whether man or dog or mouse, when it comes to risk taking, all think alike.
You may have a point there, if you suggest that states are in a state which cannot be explained by others, and cannot be solved unless you've experienced what cannot be explained. As the likelyhood of this is rather slim, if not zero, I guess you made no point.
If you want to solve a problem, it helps if you have a look at it first. So, going there and talking to people will give you a better insight into what the problem is.

By the way , what planet are you from?
I asked this because you have a way of sometimes writing incomprehensible stuff. I'm not sure if this is a language problem ,or a sign of confused thinking.( or smoking weed?)

I wonder why you took so long with the reply, does it mean jmervyn will write in a couple of months? It makes me wonder who'll ever win a debate, the one with the strongest arguments or the one who waits until everyone have left the debate and then writes the "conclusions".

Way to simplistic, don't think of it as something that should be cured through medicine, but through environment, studying the brain can show what kind of environments should be avoided.

Read my very first or second post in this thread, where I actually write more or less what you do, and see counters to your own argument. It's jmervyn you've to ask if you want someone to counter that argument as that's not anything that has to do with what I've written so far.

Correct, can you only look at a problem being where the problem is though? The answer is no, unless the criteria of my first reply to you were satisfied, which was obscure.

There are more variables than that, it may also have something to do with you, but I can tell you that I in general are aware of what I want to say when answering, and my problem is that I believe it's good mannered to answer everything no matter how irrelevant it may seem I still believe I should at least tell it's irrelevant. That way I can often come way away from my original idea, ending up answering anything I'm thrown against, and the slightest wrong answer will often result in a complete miscredit, however all the good answers that aren't continued will be forgotten, that's not the way I wish to debate, and I should probably consider to change.

We all know already what needs to be changed. The Somalis need a stable government, rule of law and decent jobs, just like any other country. You do not need brain science for that . Leave that to the doctors to advance medicine.

I use the computer at work, so I can't be on the internet all day. When I do fieldwork, I may be off the net for 2 weeks at a time.

WTF would you want to anwer everything?

If your car stalls, you look under the hood. If your toilet is blocked, you look at the plumbing, and dont study the brain of the one who built that toilet,to find out why people build crappy toilets.

Most probably

You do not need brain science for that .
Gives a more indepth explanation, the more precise the better.

Leave that to the doctors to advance medicine.
If we all thought so, no progress would ever be made.

Thank you, that's nice to know, in what field do you work?

WTF would you want to anwer everything?
Pretty much yes. That's what I've done so far. Oh and no, of course I don't want to.

No, but you may call the automechanics guy and ask if it's something that can be quick fixed by you after describing the problem.

Price Statistics ( consumer price index)

Leave brain science to the doctors to advance medical care. It is no use where the problem is political. Except if you want to do brain modification on George Bush. LOL.
But seriously, I do not understand your religious belief in "brain science" ,and your unrealistic ideas what it can be used for. God ( if you believe) or Nature gave us free will, and you want to tinker with peoples brains. Consider the moral/ ethical side of that. And such technology can and will be used for sinister purposes. If you can reprogram pirates, who else gets reprogrammed? Makes "1984 " and " animal farm " look like a picnic. Some things should never be invented, as " uninventing" them is impossible! Anyway ,we will have to use what we have now, instead of waiting for some advance in the future. You cannot fix your car with a tool that does not exist yet.

OK, so who do the Somalis call?? The UN? Obama?

I have answered this before, one reply up. I've also answered the rest you wrote many times now. You must be more specific if there's something you want me to explain more indepth, otherwise it'll be like you asking a computer what 1+1 is and everytime you ask you get the answer 2, but what you may really want to ask is how the computer calculates 1+1.

There's no religious in my belief, it's something that can be falsificated, and therefore something I can put a probability on, unlike religion.

We were talking about whether or not I would be able to understand the problem without actually going to Somalia, what do that have to do with Somalis?

Of course you can understand the problem without going there. But why do The President or a Governor (USA) (Or any other leader for that matter) visit the scene of a disaster? Why did Bush go to New Orleans? So that he can see and understand better..

Which you just should have written from the start, as many parts of the debate wouldn't have been needed then. Funny how your argument is somewhat identical to mine on the subject of studying the brain, anyway I guess we're done now, am I right?
