    PING??? - Technical question

I'm guessing ping refers the speed at which my connection to a server is moving??????.

How do check it (i'm on a PC)?
    What is considered good?
Does physical distance make any difference?

I'm sure this has been asked before. Here it is again!

    Thanks Much

When in a game on Battle.net you can simply type /fps and your ping rate will be shown up top. I usually have a ping of 40-60, however last night It was staying more around 100 or so.

Normal for me is 30 - 100 or so. I happened to check mine last night...hit the 450 range. During severe lag spikes, I have seen 4000 - 5000 in ping.

The flavor of these replies suggests that:

high ping = not so good
    low ping = good

With this in mind can anyone speak to a range of good/range of bad?
(I'm connecting with a cable modem)

0 - 100 or so is fine. With 100 - 300 or so you will notice some lag, maybe not much. 300 - and up more lag. Around 1000 or so you either cannot move at all or will move very slowly.

Type /fps when you notice lag to see the current Ping rate, you can also leave it on and then learn to associate various degrees of lag with ping numbers.

IMO, I would not play when you see pings hitting 400 + And higher. Even at the 300 mark you will notice slowness that can cost you a death.
