    Ping pong and fps!

Now, I've played my share of single player for ages, never venturing to multiplayer. This is in part because I've never had a broadband connection before, and also because I'm in a remote country in Asia (I didn't expect my modem to cut it, so to speak.) Recently, I got the broadband, so I say to myself, "Hey! Why not pick up a multiplayer game up? I could try Diablo 2 again, the new patch is pretty spiffy on single player at least."

Playing the game was torture. Why so? Was it because I was sharing the connection with my brother's PC, which was EMule-ing away happily?

So I looked up the /fps command. Lo and behold, I have a ping thingy of 3000. Hmmm. That can't be good.

What ping rate do you guys usually find acceptable?

I usually have around 250. I have never ever had a ping below 200.

You might want to switch servers to the Asia-based ones. Those might work better.

250??? That might just explain why I have so many problems.
I got my brother to switch off his thingy...and my ping rate has halved! Woohoo! It's now 1200+.
    Xp

I AM actually playing on the Asia server...quite obvious too from the way people talk on the forums. Although sometimes I wonder if that's just the way D2 players talk. :rolls eyes:

Evanta: Whoop, my bad. Of course I meant the chat rooms and in game. :) Maybe I'll look for you on Asia 3...

Hmmm. I actually hit a ping of merely 350 yesterday on Asia 1. Must be random or something. Can you guys point me out to a newbie thingy for multiplayer games? How do I tell which server is best from my location?

My accts is Evanta/Evantas, whisper when u are there, happy to see a forumer finally in Asia... lol

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Asia3's based in China (most of the people there are from China btw), one of the other server's based in Korea, but no idea about the rest.

For me, sometimes my connection also lags like nuts, I'm working on the theory that sometimes they just don't like your IP. Had to restart diablo and internet connection several times sometimes just to get under 500 ping, which is around the min. for the game to be playable.
