Pindleskin and MF%?

Hi everyone. This is my first post in sorc forums and just had a quick mf question. I currently have 587 mf on my sorc now. I do Pindle runs and use an Alibaba with 1 Ist in it right now. I have heard about deminishing returns where after so much mf it actually lowers your chances of getting better items. This is obvious when you mf Meph cause around 300-400 gets you decent items but once over that you mostly start getting rares and low sets. My question is I have another Ist and wanted to know if I should stick it in the baba with my other so I have over 600 mf. I am worried I will actually hurt my mf rate and I dont want to waste a rune. Will the extra 30 mf help? Thanks in advance.

More mf is always better. But the boost to your chance of getting a unique item becomes less - if that sounds confusing, take a look at the formula (where UF is your "unique find", i.e. the increase to your chance of getting a unique):

UF = (MF*250)/(MF+250)

so:
Code:
MF   UF
100% 71%
300% 136%
500% 167%
587% 175%
617% 178%
So while the Ist will help, it won't be a significant boost to your UF. You may exchange other mf equipment to make your runs faster and let the Ist make up for the less mf.

God I hate those ppl saying those kind of crap don't believe any of them.

Those stupid "lower your mf a couple points and you'll mf better" is HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO BE TRUE. It's just all in the luck. :uhhuh:

I can explain for you why you think that your magic find gets worse as it gets higher. Here are the formulas for magic find dimishing returns:

MF Diminishing Returns Formulae
- Uniques: Final MF = (MF*250)/(MF+250) ; cannot exceed 250
- Set Items: Final MF = (MF*500)/(MF+500) ; cannot exceed 500
- Rares: Final MF = (MF*600)/(MF+600) ; cannnot exceed 600

With 300 MF you get:
Unique = 136
Set = 187
Rare = 200

And your chances to get any type of item are farily close to the same.

With 600 MF you get:

Unique = 176
Set = 272
Rare = 300

you can see that your chances of a set compared with a unique at 300 mf is only a 50 point difference but at 600 mf its almost a 100 point difference.

The other reason that you see "crap" at higher levels is that normal items are more common and drop more often than exceptional or elite items. The most common armor in the game is a breast plate. That means that you are going to see lots of Isenharts and Venom wards when you magic find and at 600 MF you will find lots more Isenharts than Venom Wards.

The other thing that happens is that if you roll a set or unique item, and there isn't a set or a unique of that type, you will get an extra high durability rare item instead.

As an example:

If you roll a unique breast plate you will get a Venom Ward.
If you roll a unique cuirass you will get a Duriel's Shell.
If you roll a unique great hauberk you will get an extra high durability rare item because there is no unique great hauberk.

The same goes with set items:

If you roll a set breast plate you will get an Isenharts Case.
If you roll a set cuirass you will get a Haemosu's Adamant.
If you roll a set great hauberk you will get an extra high durability rare item because there is no set great hauberk.

So in normal and nightmare you think you see "good" stuff and in Hell diff you think you are getting "crap"
