"A new bill is being introduced called the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act, which would require any mobile phone containing a digital camera to sound a tone whenever a photograph is taken with the phone's camera. It would also prohibit such a phone from being equipped with a means of disabling or silencing the tone."

The obvious flaws in such an asinine bill notwithstanding, I found the comment section to be a gold mine.

Here are some of my favorite comments:

"My proposed addition to this bill: when a warrantless wiretap is conducted by the NSA, they are required to play the sound of the Constitution being ripped up into little pieces and then burned."

Man...next election cycle, let us PLEASE fill the Senate and HOR 50/50 with each party. I feel so much safer in my country, and its progress when there is complete gridlock in the federal govt.

When camera phones that don't click are outlawed, only outlaws will have camera phones that don't click.

First they came for those whose phones did not click when taking a picture, and I did not speak up because I did not own a phone that did not click when taking a picture.

I recall that Japan has a similar law, to prevent photos being taken of. . . things that Japanese men want to take pictures of, I guess.

Wait, the "Video Phone Predator Act" is in preparation, it requires all video-capable phones to make a government-mandated "heavy breathing" noise when filming.

Oh, those crazy congressman.

They should have teamed it up with some identity theft rules. It would stand a better chance in Congress. After all, ID thieves can just snap a picture of your credit card when you use it to pay for something.

A credit card is about as secure as putting all your money in a paper envelope and dragging it behind you on a 200 metre long piece of twine, with a big sign over it saying "free money". If you're worried about security then don't use one, fool.

That will never work. You can simply open the case of the mobile and destroy the speaker and simply disallowing such a manipulation won't help at all. There are enough things which are not allowed and people are doing them anyway all the time.

i know the law doesn't care.....

but can't the girl if she truly doesn't want to be seen...to not wear short skirts and to wear covering-full panties...... and/or to NOT have a neckline that has a U shape as big as her upperbody.......

i'm glad guys don't go around as exposed as we allow girls too.....

when a girl chooses to expose herself, she lost all creditibility when she says she doesn't want to be seen/looked at .... it screams.... LIER !!!

There is a difference between 'being seen' and 'being harassed' or 'being photographed without your consent for someone's sexual enjoyment'.

Further to that - men who photograph women in this way are not doing so for the sexual enjoyment of the picture they take but for the sexual enjoyment of violating another humans privacy against their will/consent/knowledge.

The "she was asking for it by the way she dresses" argument is pure stupidity. You look like a guy that would be good to rob. Does that mean it's suddenly ok for me to do so? Maybe you shouldn't have had a fat wallet sticking out of your back pocket. Maybe you shouldn't have been wearing that nice watch, or driving that nice car.

The whole point of the law (in general) is to bring objectivity into subjective matters. We define a set of activities that are wrong, regardless of circumstances (with a few special affirmative defense like self-defense).

though about the wallet and robbing example u used:

merely looking-staring at that fat wallet is one thing. actually going up and taking it, is quite something else.

i completely agree that just because some one has an expensive car or jewelry or a fat wallet that does NOT give u the right to act upon it.

but (*to me*, remember) there's nothing wrong with looking-staring at that hot expensive car or those expensive shoes or jewelry or a fat wallet.

never did i advocate in my posts, in being able to engage in a sexual act with a female based on how she dresses.

my view was/is merely that if the girl is advertising her body u have the right to take notice as that is the purpose of advertising, to get your attention and focus.

but, if i'm looking or staring at u, that's quite a compliment coming from me. the correct response when u get complimented is to be thankful. to be ungrateful or unthankful when your complimented is extremely bad manners and very disrespectful to the person taking a risk and voicing his interest in some one. it's hard for a guy to go up and tell a girl he likes her cuz he's nervous or worried she'll say no or think he's an ugly loser. and though we may not show it, we are human and have feelings too. and that rejection really hurts, especially when it's at the scale of love-attraction-relationships.

I would like this law...if it were enforced...and it will never, never be enforced. How many camera phones are there? A billion? Now how many cops are there who are being told by their boss to investigate cell phones...?
