Perfect Charger

Perfect Charger

I've got quite a few decent characters, but none you would call GG (if you had half a brain anyway). I have allot of fun fighting people using charge characters, and it seems I can afford all the gear to make a (near) perfect charger. I would realy like some input before I get to the final stages where things get iraversable because of spent stats. BTW, I play on classic.

Final build = lvl 30 Paladin
19 charge
20 might
1 salvation

Gear =
Steeldriver great maul ((50 str req), around 200 damage)
Angelic rings/ammie (Attack rating mainly)
Rockfliece armour (10% damage reduce, (50 str req))
Deaths belt (CBF)
Duskdeep helm(15 res all)
Rare boots/gloves with good resists.

The alternate is using face of horror(+20 str, 10 res all) tearhaunch (10 res all, +2 vigour +5 str(70 str req)) silks of the victor (35% res all (80 str req))

Anyway, this char will most likley be fighitng people around level 60 or so, so he needs to be able to tank some damage. I would realy like some input here though. Should I break the 50 str barrier and use the other gear ?

Also, is the damge reduce from rock fliece worth it ? I cant see many other items in classic that have % damage reduction to stack with it. Other gear suggestions would be great aswell.

Mostly my builds are quite sloppy, but I want this one to work out well and have no wasted stat points etc.

Thanks,

weapon: Steel driver isn't great for a two handed weapon. I would go for more dmg with an Insight Partizan or some other Insight weapon. First of, it's considerable dmg, 250+ max and you get critical strike. Second, high range. Third, continous mana regeneration. Charge uses up a lot of mana, you'll want to be able to desync and attack in a manner that's hard to see constantly.

Armor: Any decent character will be able to kill you in hit or two hits. You would want to be able to do the same. +max armor will work. Twitch with + max or shael also works fine. Vrs casters, keep a viper magi on hand.

Helm: again, 3 os helm with +max dmg jewels. The dmg gained is very good.

Boots: Those do fine vrs casters; for melee, use sanders.

I was toying with using twitch, but I dont realy need the extra defence. (read block) Remember I am on classic, so cant get acess to some of the gear you mentioned. Barbs are almost unkillable with a pure charger, if the barb is smart anyway. So losing a potential 35% res all for the ability to possibly (Not probably) survive one WW is pointless IMO. Most other HtH builds I dont not have -allot- of trouble with.

I see, in that case, your gear might be as good as it gets, unless you want to use rares.

You might want to use a rare naga with that open wounds shield in combo with twitch for melee.

I think you should read more carefully or stop postinf recklessly, since this caps-locked post you posted is totally useless. You really think people do not know that in Classic there are no Runewords? Lyrs just missed the line where the other guy said he played classic. No one's perfect, you know.

A charger shouldn't really rely on Open Wounds, but that shield may still be worth keeping around for higher lvl Barbs.

I'd think you'd want to use a rare Battle Hammer instead of a Naga for the damage. And how 'bout a rare Lance; how do they (potentially) stack up against Steeldriver?

The idea of the build was that it reaches a plato at level 30. Thats the point where you reach max charge, max might and you can put a point in salvation (60% res all for one point is godly). And lvl 30 lets you use allot of gear that you otherwise wouldent be able to.

Above level 30 your only putting points into synergies for the extra damage. The steeldriver dose very good damege compared to other things (higher average damage than most lances). A one hand weapon is usfull (I have a high level charger that uses a BH), but this char is designed around 1-2 hit kills. With a 1h weapon I find that people just kill you too quick.

Yeah, I noticed that earlier on today.

Deaths gloves/belt
Angelic rings ammie
Steeldriver
Face of horror
Goldskin
Tearhaunch

70% res all, around 2500 damage at lvl 30 ~5-600 health.

Just needa find the deaths, goldskin and tearhaunch. Thanks for the input guys n gals.

Unfortunately the IAS doesn't help you at all with charge as an attack.

Hmm, hrrr, well, Steeldriver is a good choice, low Str req, and I can see the use of Rockfleece. I assume you want some good resistances? How about getting (if you have it o/c) Full Iratah's? thats 65% res all, and a potential 85% max res. With Tearhaunches you'll make 75% res all. All you need then are two crappy res rings to make up the rest. Irathas is gloves+belt+helmet+amulet. Thus, you'd be at 85% res all, have % DR, and have nice damage. If you take Goldskin, you are at 85% res in Norm and NM.

rockfleece is useless on a lvl 30 classic charger, ideal gear in my eyes would be...

Rcage
Gtoe
Pbsnap, psteel, high dmg -req lance, etc. doesnt really matter each is good in their own way... range is an important factor
Bh/Twitch/Sback on switch for when you need block/ow
Angelic combo
Deaths sash
Bloodfist
3X pruby helm/duskdeep/biggins

Skill pnts should be obvious, but id reccomend at least 1 pnt to each resist aura/1 salvation

In stash/ keep 3ptopaz/psaph shield if you need it vs sorc/foher

Go all out damage, with some crutches (block/resist) in the stash for when you rarely need it
