Pepsi product "throwbacks"

Pepsi product "throwbacks"

I heard about these in February and got really excited. A quick story from last night:

I went to the grocery store real quick to pick up a candy bar, soda, and movie (if anything good, there wasn't). I grab a Mountain Dew and as I take a taste I notice that it doesn't taste the same. It tastes slightly more citrus-y and less sweet. It was really good but I checked to see if I had grabbed the wrong product. Nope; it was a throwback: a pepsi product made with sugar as opposed to HFCS.

I know these are only really here for passover but if you like soda but want a better taste I recommend stocking up. Yes, HFCS and sugar have basically the same caloric content and are supposedly the same sweetness, but you really can taste a difference. I've loved Mt. Dew for a long time now but the natural sugar version is better.

For those who want Coke they do the same thing but don't rename their product; I think yellow-capped bottles of Coke are natural sugar versions. Latino markets also carry natural sugar Coke year round.

Enjoy.

I prefer Coke over Pepsi but I did notice the Pepsi campaign during NASCAR. Have not seen it advertised otherwise.

Mt. Dew is the only pepsi product that I like. The difference in taste in Coke with regards to natural sugar is less, though.

I once had a diet pepsi because there was nothing else and I was amazed people drink the stuff as it tasted disgusting to me same as with Robinsons Barley water which tasted like it was pure acid ,I felt like I could use it as cleaning fluid.

Coke is mostly phosphoric acid with lots of sugar in it to sweeten the sour taste, my chemistry teacher once said. I also read somewhere that the 0,5 l bottle of coca-cola contains the equivalent of eight spoonfuls of sugar. Needless to say, I don't drink coke.

Well according to the label cola is 10% carbohydrates which means cola is maximum 10% sugar. So a half litre of cola would be a maximum of about 3.3 tablespoons.

Thankfully he wasn't a math teacher.

But exaggerating the sugar content of cola seems to be one of those unsubstantiated statements that people just let slide like calling Paris Hilton an idiot or saying that Michael Jackson is poor because he has loans.

How does that refute what I said? Cola is 10% carbohydrates which means the sugar content cannot exceed 10%.

I will take the average of 55 tests over the label.

Coke Classic tests out at 11.03% sugar or 9.14 TSP

In the US it's 12 oz to the can or 0.355 liters.

Do your own math.

P.S. - S4ander was refering to Teaspoons I think?
3 to 1 ratio there.
tbsp. = tablespoon
tsp. = teaspoon

I don't see the relevance as most sodas have nearly the same sugar content, with a few exceptions. Pepsi products tend to have more sugar so I don't know why people are singling out Coke (Pepsi's 150cals of sugar compared to Coke's 140).

Did you see the list I posted the link to above?
The sugar content does vary a bit depending on the product.

The majority of soda there is 11-12%. That isn't really a huge variable. And I did say "with exceptions", mostly for Mt. Dew lines of products, so there will be some above and some below. I never count "diet" drinks as soda and some things like Hawaiian Punch don't count (to me).

I too saw on a documentary the mentioning of 8 teaspoons of sugar in one can. It may not sound possible at all, but sugar is so soluable...

It also sounds impossible because you would think it would be unbearably sweet but there are ways around that to make it bearable. For instance, ice cream at room temperature is unbearably sweet, but since it is served cold, we don't taste it as much. With soda, the acid and perhaps other ingredients may interfere with some of the taste.

I found a problem with each ingredient in cola so I vowed long ago never to touch the stuff again:
The phosphoric acid in colas (mentioned) can erode tooth enamel, the water may be filtered water from Lake Ontario or some other very poluted source full of flushed birth control (synthetic estrogen and progesterone), the simple sugars can cause insulin resistance in tissues, I'm told by a TA the carbonated water also does reactions with your teeth, caffeine interferes with sleep, even the caramel color is probably sticky to stain the teeth by burrowing into the tooth enamel or cling to teeth leading to plaque. It's like a cocktail of death (imo, anyway)!

Now you're just paranoid. Everyone has seen the tooth in cola experiement but you don't secret it from your saliva glands. You just drink it and that's that.
