Pay for Play?

Pay for Play?

Would you pay for playing Diablo 3?
The obvious answer is no, but what if you only paid for the time you played?
Noone wants to pay for playing a game. Or would they? Look at the up's and down's of it.

Up's: you get new patches, updates and the game keeps expanding, evolving, and is always challenging, exciting and fun.

Down's: You have to pay, and you'll feel needed to play, cause you've paid!

My ideas for paying are:

Solution1:
You only pay for your playtime. ex. i pay for 24 hours of game time, wich would give me 24 hours of login time, and I don't waste any of my time, when i'm in school, at work, on holiday etc.
Most of you would say: "Why pay at all?"
but look at the up's of it. We wouldn't want Diablo 3 ending up like Diablo 2, where you do the same things over and over again, and get bored.
Also if you wanted to take a break, you wouldn't have to worry about the rest of your playtime running out in the sand. You get the best of both worlds:)

Solution2:
Addicted gamers, and people who like discounts would pay for a whole month of playtime, like in WoW. This way all have the option, and everybody are satisfied:)

Price examples:
If i want to use solution1 if fill up my account with ex. a week of playtime for 10 dollars(ex.). The prices would of course be redifined, and adjusted, this is just my proposal.
If i want to use solution2 i could fill up my account with 30 days, (like in WoW) and pay 18 dollars(ex.) if i played like a maniac, the best solution would of course be number 2, but if i enjoyed playing on and off, solution 1 would be the best.

Give me your opinion on this, and please come with feedback, so this can be thought through by all, and hopefully make blizzard consider using this method in Diablo 3.

Why we need these threads anyways? It has been confirmed from blizzard that it won't be pay for play.. there will be some features that you can pay for (like in wow you can pay 10$ to change your name and looks etc).

Blizzard has said they're looking into advertising on Battle.net to get capital. that sound perfectly reasonable. If you play any Blizzard game right now, you'll see there's a banner ad in the lobby. All Blizzard has to do is sell that space to Microsoft or Coca-Cola and bam, instant profit for them and a minimum of fuss for us.

And before you ask, there is 0 chance of in-game ads.

Blizzard is already doing that with Diablo II. For free.

Paying per minute would be a terrible idea because then Blizzard would have a strong incentive to make the game as slow and grindy as possible...

If the game is pay to play in any capacity beyond buying the disk to install the game, I, and millions of others, will not purchase it.

They already have WoW.

I agree that it won't be pay to play but common you can't really say D2 has had good support. When WoW became a big money maker D2 was left to fend for itself. When it comes down to it if the game isn't bringing in money they will slack their support of it. Hopefully since they plan more than one expansion this time and will maybe use more lobby ads it'll get supported longer this time.

How good WoW does has no meaning. They aren't going to just support D3 off WoW profit.

Re: Pay for Play?

I'd gladly pay a monthly fee for Diablo3, if it were more like an MMO. Paying a monthly fee for a persistent world has it's ups beyond anything in this thread...

like easier for them to minimize or stop duping entirely. :)

My First Post.... but i would disagree with you. The thing about MMO's is after you get max lv, it get boring and people jump from MMO to MMO. Countless people quit wow for war. alot of em came back, but people are willing to do this for a better game.

I would quit WOW for Diii even if you have to pay to play. Matter of fact i will probally sell my WOW account when dii comes out either way.
