Patriarch Scourge (Guess what weapons he used)

My first (and last completed) frenzy barbarian was more of a novelty build, using both the Disciple and Bul Kathos sets. I recently decided that I deserved a new Frenzier--one far more powerful and durable than his green-wearing brethren.

    I give you Patriarch Scourge.

    ANALYSIS

Utter pwnage. High life leech, open wounds, deadly strike, Crushing Blow, prevent monster heal, hit slows target; and chance to cast Static Field (Stormlash), Dim Vision (Gloom), Life Tap (Dracul's) and Decrepify (mercenary). This guy cuts through even the most daunting boss pack with relative ease, even on players 8 in Hell.

Leveling was also a breeze. A "Black" Tyrant Club and Fleshrender worked beautifully until level 57, and then the "Oath" and an "Honor" scourge until I could equip Stormlash at 82.

Some might question all the chance to cast curses, because they can overwrite each other. But generally, it wasn't an issue. The Dim Vision seemed to trigger mostly on ranged attackers (and thus, farther away); while Life Tap and Decrepify occurred on the melee types. I tried to avoid fighting the same things as my merc, so that their curses wouldn't overwrite. It worked well. Really, no matter what curse was currently active, it was useful.

Ghosts were an issue, however. I just hate those damned things. Conversely, Gloams were no problem.

I only died twice. Why? If you guessed "Iron Maiden" you get a cookie. Later on I began the slow (but effective) method of luring away the Doom Knights with Taunt, then using Berserk on the Oblivion Knight itself.

There was one real highlight of the Scourge experience. This.

The long wait to use Stormlash was well worth it. Scourge deals a ton of damage and is practically unstoppable. I adore him. Thank you for reading about him.

Congrats! Looks like a lot of fun (or at least more fun than BK/Disciple). If nothing else, the Lo rune makes up for it. =X. Some people have all the luck... /mini-rant. Does he have a future? Melee Baal runs maybe? =).

By the way, why do you use F4 to map your skills? Haven't you ever accidentally pressed it while holding down Alt? lol. Anyway, go work on your Impalazon already. It's viable I tell you!

Very nice character and very similar to what I was planning on doing with an Oath-Scourge. What charms did you use, various AR/Max damage and resistances?

@Nagisa. I still use the F1-F8 range, though I stopped using the F4 button because of the Alt + F4 thing. I think one of my barbarians had something like Find Item on F4. Looking what items are on the ground and switching to F4 to start horking got a little frustrating.

Sounds fun, makes me want to pat my frenzybarb using Oath ethBA and a DC, great build:thumbsup:

@Nagisa: i also use the F keys, the F4 thing used to happen, but now I'm programmed not to; my big issue is Alt +Tab, to minimise D2

Well done. Some nice whackage going on there. A little bit more damage then I got out of my Frenzy Barb, but then again, it was my first Barb, and I didn't know what I was doing skill-wise.

As for F4 - I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to switch right button skills, and I rarely switch left button skills. I doubt I would ever have 4 left button skills to require the use of the actual F4 button.

Re: Patriarch Scourge (Guess what weapons he used)

    Thanks, everybody!

I can honestly say I have never accidentally hit Alt and F4 in unison. I realize that mapping skills to that row is probably not the most efficient; but that's the way I've always done it. And old habits die hard. Impaleazons, on the other hand; die quickly and into obscurity.

First of all, thanks for making this build possible by selling me the 1.07 eth scourge. It made a fine Oath.

Right, I knew I forgot charms. I used about 4 x Fanatic GCs, simply to boost Natural Resistance. The others are +combat skills, and a little AR. I could possibly use more AR, to be honest. In Act 5 Hell I had about 75% chance-to-hit, which is a little low by my standards.

Nice Swiller, had similar fellow on Battle.net a while back. Went with duress for an armour instead though. Can never have enough CB!

Congrats on scourging the Hell
I just wonder if the ethereal 'Oath' pays off  Having a lvl16 HoW around should add some decent damage to both of your weapons as well as the lamented AR! The spirit should be durable enough with maxed BO, so you don't need to recast it too often.
