With the MFO fast approaching, I wanted to finalize this character and write a bit about him, mostly to scare his opponents for the MFO :)

PindleRunner is quite similar to bcoe's Pindle running Barb, so you might recognize some things and ideas I've borrowed (stolen) from him. He's one of my oldest (my very first, in fact) Travincal goldfinders, renamed and respecced for one thing and one thing only, and that is to kill Pindleskin as efficiently as possible. I must say, he does that rather well.

Well, this character is ridiculously powerful, and I'm quite happy with him. He survives great with 1552 life, and I might definitely respec him with a bit less Vitality and some other combination of Strength/Dexterity, haven't done any math there to see what's optimal. Either way, the damage he dishes out is pretty insane, and lots of damage = lots of leech = safe barb = happy Fabian.

The main improvement, I feel, over bcoe's Pindle runner, which I've compared PindleRunner to a lot, is the awesome crafted Amulet. It has the 5% FCR I need to reach the 105% breakpoint when on switch. It also gives me the all-important Mana Leech, which means I don't have to use Stealskull to solve my leeching problems. The 4 extra +skills I gain from this (2 from the Amulet, 2 from 1.07 Shako) are very very welcome, not to mention the 40% extra life. Oh, and the Amulet has 24% MF too. It's a nearly perfect fit for this build.

The resists are pretty bad, but I don't really notice it too much. No deaths so far in the ~300 runs I remember doing, in any case.

I'm pretty sure I'll use this guy in the MFO next week, so fellow Pindlers better watch out :) This guy is efficient, let's just hope he's lucky too!

Wow nice build! Not sure what else you could do for optimization. If you don't dominate the Pindle portion of the MFO, it won't be for lack of preparation :p

Congrats , it's nice to see something else than a sorc in mfo's. And I believe this barb will be quite efficient in making gold and green drop. The gear is very very nice also.

Btw the name is so uninspired :(

Right up there with the names of some of my other characters; Travincaler. LK_Runner. FireSorc. LightSorc. :)

It should be noted that in the first 30 runs I did since renaming him (after posting this thread), I had a Windforce drop. Beginner's luck is strong! Also a Gul just before that.

Edit: And a Shadow Dancer and Natalya's Mark after 160 runs. Fun character, this.

Congrats - its a nice refinement on Telemachus. I'm surprised that your AR is enough and that the Sanctuary aura from Azurewrath doesn't tip the scales in the favor of PBs over axes, but your run times are a second or two better than mine, so there's all the evidence we need. He's my favorite pindle-runner by far - it feels so much faster than a similarly-timed sorc, and you get the benefit of more MF and a hork... I am looking forward to your MFO results.

I fear your resources and Barb skills are beyond mine, but I shall try nonetheless.

One question for ya though (and I'm sure you've already worked this out), but given your insane MF totals and the harsh diminishing returns, would you maybe be better off using a Highlord's over your (admittedly sexy) amulet and getting your ML from Ghoulhide? Seems like a dramatic DPS increase for a marginal MF loss...

As for your question, it's entirely possible you're right and that it would be more efficient. My scientific and unbiased answer is "600 MF!!"

Edit: And also, after having seen a rare Archon Staff, a rare Unearthed Wand and a magic Dimensional Shard already, there's no way you're getting me to LOWER my MF. Quite the opposite, I'm probably switching out those stupid resist/6 MF charms for plain 7's. It also bothers me that bcoe has an Ist in his helm, and I don't, so we'll see about that too. :) That said, I'll try it and see how I like it. If it lowers my run time by like 2 seconds or soemthing, I'd be hard pressed not to make that switch.

Hm yeah those are pretty nice. I'll definitely try experimenting a bit with improving the gear and see if the faster run time is worth the loss in MF. Too bad I don't have one of those, might have to get back to rack running for a few days :)

well it depends on how much the ghoulhides actually speed the run up , I'd reckon that running to pindle takes more time than killing him?

I ran the numbers via a spreadsheet for your particular setup.

Current:

601% MF, 661% MF @ 53% Hork = ~622% MF composite

Highlord's/Ghoulhide:

537% MF, 597% MF @ 53% Hork (unless this happens to go up from the +1 Skills on Highlord's) = ~558% composite

Looking at a Tomb Reaver (should be the same for any unique, neglecting rounding errors) since I'm assuming you couldn't care less about set items:

5000 runs (7650 drops w/ 53% Hork, assuming no shattered corpses from Reaper's) @ 622% MF =

59.3% chance

= 5103 runs (7808 drops) @ 558% MF

So you'd need to run about 2% faster, or shave ~1/2 second off your 23 seconds.

As Tanksaabas pointed out, it probably takes longer to get there than to kill him, so it may or may not pan out. I'm inclined to think the AR from Ghoulhide will probably do more for you than anything else, unless you are already stacked in that department.

Not quite sure I'm up for leveling another Barb up who is more suited for the task, and I can't get my runs under 30 seconds while carrying a good deal less MF than you, so I will probably have to stop sleeping for the duration of the MFO to have a prayer. :coffee:

Tried a bit with Ghoulhide over Chance Guards this morning, and run time seemed to go from 22.9 to 21.3 seconds (over a 65 run sample, so admittedly not very good, but I can tell it was noticable either way). Also tried respeccing and went dual mastery and Grief+Azurewrath for a little while, and it seemed alright but not quite good enough. I'll test that more thoroughly later.

I really can't see myself using Highlord's unless I get those last 5% FCR from somewhere else, which I guess means sacrificing even more MF on a ring slot. As it was today during testing, I just wasn't a fan of the slower teleport and horking, but there's always more equipment swapping to be done I suppose. Thanks for the numbers Hammy, definitely some good food for thought.

Also, my girlfriend and I broke up today, so if your plan is to beat me by playing more, that might be tough since I think I'll just sit here constantly all week long ;) Sorry for OT.

Edit: Actually, the Other lvl85 Areas category looks more competitive, so I might do that instead to be honest. Meh we'll see.

I replaced the Chance Guards with these, and since I now have a source of life leech, I replaced String of Ears with upgraded Goldwrap, so I only lose out on 10 MF, but gain more than a Fortitude's worth of damage and a huge chunk of AR. Seems worth it, even though he's no longer super safe with 1400 life, so I might raise that a bit. I've also changed strategy a bit and am concentrating only on Pindle, not really bothering with killing the minions or horking their bodies. Run time seems to hover just over the 19 second mark, with 558/618 MF. Writing this, I realize I miscounted my MF in the first post of the thread, it should have been 561/621, not 601/661. Oops.

Anyway, quite pleased with these changes. He's a force to be reckoned with for sure.

Thanks a lot Greebo :) I can report that, while he wasn't very lucky during the MFO, he was quite fast. His run time average was 19.68 seconds over 5255 runs, according to the run counter. This is concentrating on Pindle only, if I killed+horked minions as well, he would be a few seconds slower, I expect.

I remember making one of these myself, i remember it could pretty much beat sorcs thanks to hork(did have less mf though).Had similar gear, but Grief and beast combo.
