    Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Concept

    Simple recipe: 1/2 ranger, 2/6 hammerdin, 1/6 vindicator.

    Stats

    Enough strength to equip WF, rest dexterity for +damage/ar.

    Bow

    Code:
    60% IAS + 14 Fanaticism => 9 fpa
    32% FHR => 6 fph
    30% FRW (+ max Vigor)
    15% CB
    ~45% DS
    10% OW
    10% LL
    8% ML
    Blessed Hammer

    Code:
    80% FCR => 10 fpc
    87% FHR => 4 fph
    30% FRW (+ max Vigor)
    Smite

    Code:
    50% IAS + 14 Fanaticism => 6 fpa Smite
    87% FHR => 4 fph
    30% FRW (+ max Vigor)
    48% CB
    35% Slow Target
    Skills

    The standard Hammerdin skill allocation:

    Offensive Auras: 41

    20 Blessed Aim (synergizes BH and +AR bowside)
    20 Concentration (+BH and bow damage)
    1 Might (pre-req)

    Defensive Auras: 24

    20 Vigor (synergizes BH + utility skill)
    1 Prayer (pre-req)
    1 Defiance (pre-req)
    1 Cleansing (utility skill)
    1 Redemption (utility skill)

    Combat Skills: 28+

    20 Blessed Hammer (secondary attack)
    1 Holy Bolt (pre-req)
    1 Smite (secondary attack)
    1 Charge (pre-req)
    5+ Holy Shield (Smite synergy and +defense)

    Equipment

    Windforce (35% ED, +15 max)
    Astreon’s (+3 mpk)
    ‘Spirit’ Sacred Targe
    Kira’s Guardian [email protected] (15% @ res, +12 max)
    ‘Fortitude’ AP [email protected]
    LoH
    Arachnid Mesh
    Gore Rider
    Highlord’s Wrath
    2 x Bul-Kathos 5%
    Assorted dual mod charms (combat and offensive skillers, +max/ar/life, resists…)
    Demonlimb in stash

    Mercenary: Diane, the Fire Rogue

    ‘Faith’ Great Bow
    ‘Delirium’ Tiara
    Greyform Dusk Shroud (21% LR, 15% ias)

    9fpa / 11 fph

    Journey

    Orion was a bittersweet char. It was great fun sniping monsters behind a hammer field and bosses were a joke thanks to Smite. However, a few places gave me an almost irresistible urge to bang my head senseless against a brick wall. The PI sob worms in Maggot Lair were highly annoying, the Ancients were incredibly hard, and Nihlathak this time was simply skipped. Finds were craptastic, including the forges. Anyway, every char has his highs and lows, and Orion definitely has more/higher highs than lows. Overall, this was a swell char and an enjoyable journey. Highly recommended.

    Thanks for reading,

    Congrats Vox!

    That's a very interesting hybrid. I applaud the exceptionally stylish use of the double-upped Greyform on your merc. I had to look up the stats to see what you could possibly be using it for, but it makes perfect sense, being the only armor with resists and leech (only other two armors with leech are Boneflesh and Skin of the Flayed one, yes?).

    Congrats from me too!

    Interesting combo build. I had been speculating about along the same lines, though not with a Rogue Mercenary.

    An interesting assortment of equipment as well, I dare say.

    Re: Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Congratulations!

    I like this build a lot. I've never done much with Hammerdins, but I really like using Rangers. ...But come to think of it, I don't think I ever made a pure physical Ranger, and certainly not after I found a WF.

    But the build is well balanced. Great damage from a distance and up close. Best of both worlds! And anyone using a non-ActII merc automatically gets some style points.

    Well done, Vox. Well done.

    Congratulations on an interesting build. The double upp'd greyform is a nice touch.

    This is a pretty interesting build, it's nice to see a non-cookie cutter paladin. And, I have to say there are a lot of nice (and underused) items represented.

    Nice pat.

    Well, 'chains of honor' has both...

    EDIT: though adding an ias jewel to CoH isn't possible

    Nice character, VoX. :) Good to see Astreon's getting some love.

    Re: Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Thank you all for the kind comments/congrats.

    @ Hammy: For the Rogue's armor, I wanted LL%, res, and ias%. Fervored Greyform (or a super lucky blood armor craft) are the only armors I'm aware of that can offer all three mods. Humbuggerer, hammered the nail right in the head :)

    @ In the Name of Zod: What would you like to know? Feel free to ask away.

    @ Doctor: It was hell :) Joking aside, it was more of a challenge that I initially expected! Plenty deaths/NDE's with this one. Missed my Amazon's Decoy a LOT.

    @ TRM: IMO, he could still be a bit more balanced if I was to level him a bit more (very unlikely now that he's Pat). Hammers are done, only bow/smite damage will go up with further levelling.

    @ Nagi: Shame, the only +4 combat Astreon's I've got is a little low on the +damage mod, but it deserved total love from this build as it boosted both hammers and smite nicely.

    Interesting idea, a "little" too expensive to make (to get similar damage). I like the name very much however.

    Very interesting. Congrats!

    Why did you make 'Delirium' in a Tiara? I've been thinking of making it for my moron(s) I can't decide on a base...

    Re: Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Thanks for the comments/grats.

    @ Greebo: The highest rune in Delirium is Ist (clvl 51). Tiara is a nice fit (clvl 52), so the item can be equipped early. Delirium offers +defense (and not +enhanced defense%), hence IMO there's no point in choosing a higher base defense helm. Plus, no str requirement.

    Re: Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    Great pat. I've tried a ranger before, but abandoned him for utter lack of crowd control. It seems Delerium works quite well for the purpose (I'm planning on making one myself, and have been for awhile, but haven't had any lems for a while.) I just found one today, but dropped into a Voice of Reason.

    Btw, any reason you didn't use Razortail for the piercing (or perhaps did you use it during leveling pre-Arachnid Mesh?) You were 1/2 Ranger, afterall.

    Re: Patriarch Orion, Blessed Ranger

    @ Milb: Pat Onion :)

    @ CRG: Delirium is great for crowd control. I have a hard time imagining this build being functional without it! Hope you get the needed Lem soon. This char didn't really need pierce. He spammed hammers vs. big mobs, and then picked the stragglers with the bow. Very enjoyable to alternate between maxed Conc/Vigor while running around dodging attacks and picking up stragglers/scattered mobs. That said, I did use Razortail (among other belts) while levelling. Arach is endgame belt in order to reach 2nd fcr bp. The +1 skills and 10% slow are also helpful to all sides of the build.

    PS: Thank you all for the comments/grats.
