Ahhh, yet another satisfying battle with Hell Baal. I've finally Mat'd/Pat'd every character class, albeit between 1.09 and 1.10.

Merc: Prayer
He started his journey back in 1.09. That's why he has extra points in Golem Mastery and Iron Golem, points in Skelletal Mages, and a prayer merc. The golem, even with nearly 6k life, is still pretty worthless (although I do make him out of whatever random junk I find on the ground). The mages actually add a reasonable ammount of damage at high levels, especially when they can stay safely at a distance.
I love my Prayer merc. Conventional wisdom tells me that I should swap him for a Might merc for MFing, but I haven't decided yet. The tradeoff - a Might merc will make my army kill faster, but the prayer merc makes my army INVINCIBLE. During today's fight with Baal (which took nearly 5 minutes with my minions doing all the heavy lifting), I lost exactly zero skelletons. I lost zero mages. My merc drank zero potions.
Anyway, he and my hammerdin will probably trade Pit duty until I decide which one I like better. That'll begin as soon as that jerk Meph drops me a Skullder's and some War Travs. Hear that Meph? Just give me my gear and I'll leave you alone.
