    Patriarch #3 Lemonade Orb-it-aller

    Hello again SPF :D

    My newest pat, lemonade the Orb-it-aller MF sorc. Why a sorc, and why this particular build? well i got sick of my necro's crappy MFing gear selection and struggleing to do anything past chaos sancuary. So i made a sorc... they seemed to be king when it comes to MFing and i happen to have a full tals set sitting around in my stash doing nothing. Originally i wanted to make i lightning sorc however i was unaware of their need for infinity, so i decided to go with the orbitaller.

    Leveling:
    Pretty easy in all 3 difficulties, only ran into two problems while leveling. the first was diablo... he killed my merc in one hit and i refused to TP just to rez him, so it turned into a game of pinball, cast frozen orb, teleport to the otherside of the room cast frozen... this went on for about 25 minuets. The second was the ancients, holy crap these guys where tough... ended up having to reroll them 30-ish times to get a combo that wasn't impossible to deal with, after that i just ran around screeming like a girl untill my merc and a few fireball's killed them.

    Not all of it is exactly what i would like it to be but it dose what i need it to, i was unsure of what to socket my tals stuff with. i was reading somewhere someone said to use facet's however i have no clue what they are so i just threw some perfect topaz's in.

    Overview of the class & Ending Notes -
    originally i hated playing a sorc, but after awhile it turned out to be pretty fun... although a pain at times. frozen orb makes for easy killing for just about anything in normal and nightmare, i originally thought it would suck because i looked at the character screen of lying and it showed a top end of 200 or damage... but i didn't really think about all the ice bolts and there damage. so all in all a great skill... fireball is fun to but i didn't get as much enjoyment out of it as i did with FO.

    :ponder: Where did you get the idea that lightning sorcs need any particular piece of gear?


    Also, sorceresses become Matriarchs. ;)

    More pedantry:

    From what i was reading (guides, faq threads etc etc) infinity is the only way to break light immunes, if there's another way to do it i would love to know it :)

    Pure lightning sorcs need an Infinity to kill LIs. But you can do Orb/Chain Lightning. I think Orbitall is more versatile, though.

    Regardless, congrats on the Mat. Hope you find some nifty stuff.

    A pure light sorc without Infinity can't hurt light immunes directly*, but neither can a pure cold sorc or a pure fire sorc hurt X immunes directly. Infinity isn't needed by any sorc, it's just very helpful.

    The difference is that a cold sorc already has a plentiful source of -enemy resist, so Ifinity is less useful for a pure cold than it is for a pure light.

    * The merc will have to be used for light immunes that need to be killed. Also pure cold or pure fire can use 1-point Static to help the merc, another reason why Infinity is especially helpful to light sorcs.

    Edit: I've never actually played a pure lightning sorc past nightmare, though; this is just my understanding from reading about them and playing several other sorcs.
