Patch 2.2: Everything New and Important

Lots of new stuff and improved old stuff in Patch 2.2, so here's a big compilation. Check the full patch notes for every single change, great and small. This is a listing of the changes that are most impactful and noticeable for players, and feel free to suggest others in comments if you feel the collective would benefit from the reminder.

Patch 2.2: Everything New and Important.

    [caption id="attachment_383024" align="alignright" width="187"][IMG] Gifts stack now.[/caption]
    • Auto-pickup (sort of). Clicking a material or gem will pick up all other materials or gems of the same type within 20y radius. (The items that auto-pickup streak towards you and vanish with a swooshing graphic.)
    • Crafting Gems or other items now does the entire stack at once. A great time-saver, but be sure you don't accidentally turn 300 Imperials into 100 Flawless Imperials, etc.
    • Potions are gone. Normal red potions no longer exist and are not dropped. Players have an inherent potion ability that works just the same (60% of max hit points, 30s cooldown), and all Legendary Potions work the same as before.)

    • More UI Buffs. Lots of new properties show up as buffs in the belt, including a counter of active Sentries for Demon Hunters using Marauder's set.
    • New Nephalem Rift tilesets. Act One's Festering Woods and Fields of Misery, Act Two's Stinging Winds, and Act Three's Fields of Slaughter all appear as randomized levels in Rifts now, and all are great; big open areas with high density. Lots of other tilesets in Rifts have random layout improvements as well.

      [caption id="attachment_383269" align="alignright" width="200"][IMG] Hamelin the Rat-King.[/caption]
    • There's also an Easter Egg with a Josh Mosqueira rift guardian who spawns very rarely, but still seems to have some bugs.
    • Blood Shards maximum capacity increases by 10 per GR# of your highest solo Grift clear. So clear GR20, and your maximum increases to 700, GR35 up to 850, etc. Postpone your Rare weapon gambling slightly longer!
    • Three new Treasure Goblins. Adventure Mode only, and all are rarely seen.
      • The Gilded Baron drops nothing but gold, and lots of it.
      • The Insufferable Miscreant spawns with minion goblins that run interference/distraction and drops better quality than a normal Goblin.
      • The Gelatinous Sire splits into 2 or 3 smaller versions of itself when killed, and those split into 2 or 3 again, so you wind up with 7-9 tiny GS goblins, all of which move quickly and drop like a normal goblin when killed.

    • [caption id="attachment_383250" align="alignright" width="155"][IMG] Gilded Baron[/caption]
    • No more Cursed Cellar powerleveling. Farnham the zombie now spawns in the entrance hallway, and he's got nasty Elite Affixes to instantly obliterate Gem of Ease-wearing free-riders. Details here.
    • Buffed "Vanilla" Sets. All the D3 class item sets have added items (all are seven pieces now) and new, big, powerful, six-piece bonuses.
      • Immortal King's Call -- Barbarian. Huge buffs to Wrath of the Berserker and Call of the Ancients.
      • Natalya's Vengeance -- Demon Hunter. Rain of Vengeance focused set.
      • Inna's Mantra -- Monk. Mystic Ally huge buffs.
      • Zunimassa's Haunt -- Witch Doctor. Big buffs to Fetish Army.
      • Tal Rasha's Elements -- Wizard. Huge buffs to Meteor via different types of elemental skills.

      • Other Buffed Sets. Firebird's Finery, Raiment of a Thousand Storms, Raiment of the Jade Harvester, Bul-Kathos's Oath, and Roland's Legacy retained the same themes, but were considerably buffed. Bastions of Will (Focus and Restraint rings) reworked and given powerful damage buffs. Crafted sets Captain Crimson's Trimmings and Guardian's Jeopardy given huge buffs to their Life Regen rates.

      • New Legendary Items: There are 24 new legendary items, including Legendary Gems and Legendary Potions, most of which are Season 3 only. Click through for full details.

      • Buffed Legendary Items: There are 20 old legendary items (not including the Sets listed above) with big buffs to their legendary affixes. Click through for full details.

All the item set bonuses are retroactive, though changes to specific set items and legendary items are not, and players will need to find new versions of those items to get the new bonuses. All set changes are available to all, while most of the new legendary items are Season Three only.

The fact you haven't played since RoS is probably the source of your complaint. In D1/d2 potion spam was the whole survival game, unless/until you got enough leech.

In D3 potions were initially a major part of survival and it was possible to run out of them or need to buy more. That's not the case in RoS. In the expansion potions are largely irrelevant. You survive by tactics and by gearing for toughness, resistance, regen, etc. potion drinking is a very rare moment of emergency, and with the 30s cooldown they are rarely used.

Furthermore, since RoS added legendary potions, those are what players use as soon as they find one. None of my chars have quaffed a plain red potion in 10 months, which meant they were just a nuisance that dropped too often and took up an inventory slot. Everyone had hundreds (thousands) of them stacked up uselessly. No one playing regularly is not happy to see them removed as a dropping object and integrated into the interface directly, until replaced at level 70 by a legendary pot.

All updated now. Sorry for delay, but right as I was posting this the full patch notes went up, and then other things happened quickly, so it took some time to get back and finish this listing.

I was glad to see them go! They were annoying as hell. I personally don't see the way D1/D2 handled healing being much different than the way it is now. Is hitting a button after a fight and waiting to fill your red orb to full any more intelligent game play than waiting to fill your red orb to full w/o hitting a button?

Well, they were barely used in current state of the game, so it was kind of dump, collecting them for collecting only (using 1 per 100 found).

    PS. HC here.

Something I haven't seen in the patch notes... I think that infamous bug that prevented you from watching cutscenes (end-of-act and such) after your first character has been fixed, because I'm seeing them again with my new character, when yesterday I wasn't able to see them. Strange that they fix it but don't mention it.

The newer, ROS 'Developer Hell' rift was in previous to 2.2.

I hadn't registered I was in it until after the guardian was dead. Things just explode with EP so I hadn't noticed until I saw the odd guardian name in chat.

I'm not sure what you mean since I haven't seen a cutscene in months, but there are always a fair number of undocumented changes in a patch. Either minor bugs that didn't warrant mention or stuff they just forgot to include in the notes.

    So good catch.

Re: Seasonal items, do they drop in non-season after the season is over? Or if I don't find it in the season, I will never find one ever?

Once the season ends seasonal items get added to the non-seasonal drop pool. You can find seasonal items from seasons 1 and 2 on non-season now.

They drop in non-season after the season's finished.

Does Blood Brother stack with Coven's Criterion for a Crusader? That would give up to 90% damage reduction on blocked attacks.

because in D1/D2 if you ran out of potions you were screwed

that is an integral part of the game
just as town portal scrolls were

now you can't run out of either

    bad move, bad design

In D1/D2 you could spam potions. Meaning you had effectively infinite healing for as long as you had potions. After a few levels you always had enough gold to buy more. Bad design.

TPs let you escape danger anywhere, instantly as long as you had one. After a few levels you always had enough gold to buy more. Bad design.

Personally I think choosing when to use your always there but cooldown restricted potion and not having the guarantee you can TP out of any fight if it gets too tough is far more engaging than spamming potions then portaling back to town when you run out (rinse, repeat).

I really enjoyed the fact that I need to start from scratch again.
First things to notice as good things (IMO):
    - potions are gone.
    - stash is now per TAB instead of first filling the TAB and then getting cash for a second TAB to continue...
    - wardrobe. Though I don't know why it is there, since there is a button on the screen to access it from anywhere in the game... But it saves me the slot for my wings (from the D3 CE).

    Not so good things (IMHO):
    - achievements have changed. I loved to see how far I could get accumelating achievement points during a season, no matter how short. But now most achievements have gone. The number of possible achievements seems a bit too small.

And for me the most memorable of this first weekend in 2.2: I found and starting using the Bovine Bardiche for the first time. It got me laughing out loud, being followed by those cows I still remember fondly of D2...
