    Pat thread and career choice

    I started thinking about creating a hammerdin as a next step of my SP career (having never played one and after I realized I had most of the high-end equipment - well, except for enigma, combat skillers, torch and anni :cool:).

    Numenor started his career as a swordman. Twinked him with full Sigons, 2xAngelic rings and ammy as soon as he met the str/lvl requirements and it was hack n slash all the way to the end of Act1 at /p8. In early act2 he learned a new skill, battle hammer, which was fun. So, he dropped down his sword and started carrying around weird stuff, like wands, +mana rings and other crap that would make any decent soldier cry. Oh, well, at least his (defiance) merc could hold his own on a good ol' one on one (or one on many if that'd be the case). He finished normal at level 48 and nightmare at level 72. At lvl 80, just after he owned the ancients, he wore the last piece of his equipment, a weird belt. After that he started Baal runs (being extra careful, as his level is somewhat low). He is now 85 and will continue running Baal until 90. Forges: Hel (NM) and Fal (Hell) :sad2:

    I tried different equipment combinations, but I die to often to my liking on WSK3 and the throne room without [email protected] resists (guardian angel) and the 86 FHR bp (spirit). Maybe after level 90 things will be easier. (Of course I could be more careful, but this char is supposed to kick ***).

    Anyway, I am thinking what I can do with this char after he hits 90. The initial plan was to level him to 95 with /p8 baal runs, but without skillers, teleport and 5 skill points less than the bnet crowd (enigma, torch, anni) this might be a bit difficult. I am thinking of CS running @ /p3 or so. Swap the GA for Skulders and the Aldurs for Hotspurs and get myself an Act1 merc. CS seems to be a better choice for a hammerdin being a more open area and all. So...

    1) What do you think?
    2) And what should I equip an Act1 merc with? (I have a 4os diamond bow and can make Passion) but I have never used an Act1 merc after act1 normal and have never actually run CS. Any advice?

    1) Well Hammerdin is not good for WSK imho - without enigma. My Hammerdin found his end of career in the Pits. Then I discovered Ancient Tunnels with my Blizzsorc :).
    You can allways try to get good map for WSK and do only Baal runs. Also try to get skillers, they really add to his damage.

    I'd advice against running CS for MF. The seal bosses drop worse than normal uniques in level 85 areas and Diablo drops worse than Baal.

    If you do insist on running it and RWM, you might consider an act 3 cold merc with a Lawbringer.

    Nah, no windforce (yet ^^). But I also have a 3os Blade Bow stashed, which makes Melody (knockback) an option. And I already have a lvl 92 blizzballer (currently working on LK) that does pretty well on AT (though it bores me two tears). Hey, aren't you the chap with the 5K AT haul on one of the previous ITFs :shocked:?

    No experience with Act3 mercs either. Could you care to ellaborate more? Please?

    Act 3 cold mercs give reasonable crowd control by chilling and freezing most things (only the cursing knights are CI, but they are not your main concern as hammerdin) and the sanctuary aura from Lawbringer knocks back the undead for extra crowd control.

    IIRC Diablo goes after him right away though, unless you unequip the Lawbringer.

    I hit 86 and I am experimenting with player settings a bit. The monsters have a harder time hiting me now. Maybe by the time I hit 90 I can do /p5 and above. Baal goes down in under a minute on /p3 as well. Some nice drops too.
    Maybe the char won't be a waste after all (I can always user a reliable baal runner)

    I would go with baal runs as well not only able to drop those really nice items but you could work on that crazy lvl 99 at the same time.


    EDIT: Ive never actually been above 90 I get bored after I win and then stop playing that character maybe one day
