Passing the Torch

How can someone trade torches safely? If it can't be brought to the trade window, similar to an anni, how do you not get ripped off on stats? How do you not get ripped off generally? What's the safest method to not get scammed? What are typical scams when trading torches?

The reason I ask is that I nearly have what I need to go for the big battle and get a torch. Chances are decent that it wont be what I need. How do I trade it?

Thanks--

There are couple ways to do it.

1. Close friend, relative, high post count people, or anyone who lives near you so you can punch them out in real life if they scam you, are good people to trade with.

2. Complete strangers, ask them to go in your game (passworded), take screenshot of his torch while making sure that you're character is in the screen, and don't let him change characters or leave the room at all to xfer, and you do the same thing, and email it to each other. Tedious, and yet secure, although if the guy really wanted the picture could be easily edited.

3. Keep on trading till you find the right one. Scam and be scammed. Say yours is a Sorc 20/20, they'll say Pal 20/20, and keep on going till you find the right kind with decent enough stats / resist you want.

I would trade with the people on these forums, who I find to be very trustworthy. Look for people with high post counts and who have a good reputation. Don't be afraid to ask someone to mod the trade for you.

How does one "mod" trades?
You get someone, such as a moderator on the forums or someone with a good reputation and high post count, to make sure the trade goes as planned for both players. The mod looks at the torches of each player and confirms that it has the stats that the players say it has. Then the mod gives A's item to B and B's item to A.

I lost an Ist and Mal to a scummy pally while trying to trade for an anni. Drop and Run.

I wish I Knew why Blizzard did not allow Anni and torches not be traded in the trade windows.

Blizzard stated that these items aren't supposed to be traded. You are supposed to find them yourself, it is a kind of quest for yourself.

Seems reasonable, but I don't see the point in only dropping one for an entire group then. I think each character, similar to a tome of lam esen, should have the opportunity to get one. Once they kill Uber D for the anni, an anni drops for all chars partied in the game. Then later, if that character, regardless of if he has an anni on his "person" or not, kills uber-D, no anni should drop--just as a book of skill or other quest item wouldn't for that individual, although others may be able to get that quest. They should also not be allowed ot pick it up. If they can prevent you from making cow games
due to some chump killing the king, not allowing quest items to drop more than once or be picked up by an individual more than once (Raddys skill book), then they could've done this. Pretty lame as it currently stands.

Since Uber Diablo started to drop anni's, I have only come across him once and I got kicked from the game because of lag.

So dissappointed.

At least we have a much better chance to get torches.

If they don't want the torch to be traded, WHY did they make it give + to a specific class' skills? And if I remember right, they don't really like the idea of muling either. I fail to see the logic in that.

whats a torch?
Hellfire Torch Large Charm
25% chance to cast level 10 Firestorm on striking
+3 to random class skill levels
+10-20 all attributes
+10-20 all resistances
+8 to light radius
also has some charges of Hydra

I don't know why so many people diss the torch as another "overrated gg charm". I like torches. They're extremely useful.

It's like this. They (as in Blizzard) want us to scam, be scammed, be greedy, and get more addicted into the game. They did NOT make Anni's + Torches not tradeable in the normal way because they weren't meant to be traded, and a symbol of strength. Blizzard won't be that retarded, because they and us both know that millions of torches are traded daily. It's kinda like they're egging us on to scam, you know?

Hey pal,

I posted this before you helped me get the torch, since I was concerned that I'd get a pally or sin torch, when I wanted a barb. Fortunately, I got a barb torch. But, I'll soon be calling you in for another uber run when I have enough keys collected, and this may be a possibility in the future, so I wanted to see what ppl were doing. I think the idea of using a trusted moderator is a good idea.
