I have quite a simple question really, at what stage do NPC's join your party in LoD? I'm really struggling to complete the quests at the start of the game, particularly the one in the Burial Grounds, I can't seem to kill that Blood whatever her name is!

Blood Raven is the quest that will get you a rogue mercenary. However, you'll also receive access to getting a rogue merc when you hit level 8 or 9, even if you don't defeat blood raven.

However, Normal difficulty Blood Raven should be fairly easy to kill once you hit level 6 or so. What character are you using?

Hi and thanks for that info.

I'm an Assassin but I'm also very new to the game, and to the genre in general, so it doesn't really surprise me that I'm getting killed on a regular basis.

As GenX said, killing blood raven will get you a "free" rogue merc. You can also level to 9 and hire 1 from Kashya. You can only have one merc at a time.

Edit: Im usually lvl 5 when i kill Blood Raven, and depending on the character and what equipment it has, she can be tough. Since its your first(?) character, im not gonna recommend a way to kill her, Ill let you figure it out :). Its part of the fun, and youll be happy once you do kill her.

Blood Raven is very difficult for inexperienced players without gear, IMHO. She's MUCH stronger than anything you've met in the game until then (Corpsefire included --- he's not that much beefed up compared to his buddies), and her raising-the-dead-and-running-away thing isn't exactly making her an easy target.

whittle her down with a ranged weapon if your having problems whacking her to death, go back to town for stamina//health potions and run around as much as blood raven does to avoid her arrows. she can be a huge pain if she does cold damage..

if you cant kill her, just run around and kill other stuff for a while. you'll level up pretty quickly and get stronger. try again after every couple of levels or so.

Just lvl up otherwise before hand, and when facing her try to draw her out of the pack so that her cronnies can't attack you, this should make it much easier.

assassins are very hard to start the game with b/c they are very item dependent. if i were u.. i would start a sorc or summoning necro. they are easy to use and can find some better items. read some of the guides here on the forum.

as for blood raven.. carry lots of potions b/c she will run away from u and shoot arrows from a distant which could hurt a lot. her mob of undead is always annoying too. if things get out of hand.. quickly tp back to town and refill on potions and stuff.

I gave up with the Assassin and started from scratch with a Necromancer. I just kept killing enemies and collecting as much gold and other stuff as I could carry, then took it back to improve my gold holdings, and keep lvling up. Eventually I was able to get some Bone Armour(don't you just love that!), and was able to raise three skellis to help deal with Blood Raven's minions. I'd bought some pretty powerful spears, so I was able to weaken her from a distance, then move in for the kill.

I've now got a merc and I'm onto the next quest. Thanks for all your help guys, I hope it's not out of order to post how I got rid of the Blood Biatch on here, as you can see, I have placed a spoiler alert at the start of the post.

nice job! remember to read the guides often. but dont follow them exactly b/c u dont have the necessary gear yet. only remember that they only set an outline of your character. so some things can be changed.

also u dont need to put spoiler alerts every time in ur post. blood raven is the first mini boss u face. wait until u try to take on mephisto, diablo, or baal! :)

Ah, starting the game new. Fun times.

I'm actually going to be doing the same later on. I no longer have an internet connection at my house, so I'm going to be starting fresh on Single Player with nothing, since all the items I've acquired are on the Realm. I'm actually looking foward to it.

recently ive been in a similar boat. My internet has been very shaky recently (to the point where my roomie and i are thinking about going elsewhere) so ive been "forced" to play SP a little. Seeing that i havent played SP in almost a year i have no equipment of value (My sigons boots are probably the most expensive of the lot)
