Party Experience as a new char

Hey, I'm not exactly new but I haven't played in over a year. I made a legit char though NM with my friend and now he's rushing a new char for me. However, I'm not getting ANY Exp. at all even though we are partied and the whole 9 yards. Also, we have done Ancients 7 times now, and I NEVER get the quest. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

to complete the ancients quest the "proper way", you have to be at least lvl20. i suppose you are lower than that.

the reason why you dont get any exp should be that you are in an area not suited for your char. For example, a lvl1 char gets virtually no exp in act5. If you are <lvl10, stay in act1 for exping, <lvl20, then stay in act2. lvl20-25 are easily gained in cow level, and lvl25 and up is most often done by baalruns.

you must be lvl 20/40/60 to get the ancients quest...also during the rush you may not be getting very much exp because the monster lvl is too high...check here http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/basics/experience.shtml for further info on exp.

for certain quests u gotta be a certain lvl, and levelins is quite easy actually in 1.10, but the thing is, u get less xp, from monsters way above ur lvl...
the best way to get experience IMO is doing baalruns (killing his minions in full games, they're around a lot) and u get good xp from that from lvl 25 and on, so its best to do ancients when ur lvl 24, not any lower, since u only get 1 lvl max from ancients in 1.10, and below lvl 20 u cant get ancients at all

and one more thing, I usually do it like this

lvl 1-10 xp in act 1
lvl 11-20 tristramruns
lvl 20-24 cowruns
lvl 25-~50 baalruns normal
lvl 50-~70 baalruns nightmare
lvl 70-~... whatever u like, baalruns hell

but u can go to baalruns hell earlier if u hav a nice friend to boost u there, but u shouldnt go there before u r like lvl 40-50, u get way more xp on nightmare baalruns then

Yeah it did, Cow Runs are no longer the place for mass experience. It's all Baal Runs now, and also when partied, you need to be within atleast 3 screens of a kill to get exp from another party members kill.

At 1.09 you could easier skip the ancients too, and cows are really not exping-stuff anymore. They wanted to "even the game out, so people visited all areas", but that kind of failed, everybody just moved to baalruns

Besides, at 1.09 you got a certain exp bonus when completing the ancients quest properly, and levelled as far as it got you. Now you still get the same amount of exp, but you are limited to one lvl raise. This means you can get at most the fixed amount of exp the quest gives, but also less. In 1.09 you could get 6 lvl-ups if doing the quest at the right time no more of that...

Ahh. it's quite annoying IMO. I'm having to run around act 1 killing things for exp because I don't want to distribute stats yet, and I can't even finish ancients yet!

keep in mind you still dont have to kill them yourself. There are always many other people doing exp runs in act1
not wasting statpoints makes it a little harder, but not that hard. people might get annoyed if you just stand back though
