Jesus, didn't know the aboriginals had such a problem there.

Wonder why the effects are so bad, think alcohol was introduced there much later like it was with China?

Apparently widespread sexual abuse meant the aboriginals got a porn ban too.

Don't have much to add, just found it interesting.

Is the Australian government maybe projecting their values onto the aboriginals from a position of ignorance and assumption? Exposure to sex due to over-crowded housing at an early age doesn't immediately strike me as inherently dangerous to a child's development; in a culture where this is the norm I dare say it's socially beneficial.

A key foundation of law is an avoidance of arbitrariness and targeting aboriginal-occupied areas seems something of a loophole-exploiting way of targeting the aboriginals themselves, which strikes me as a clear breach of human rights regarding discrimination.

As for widespread alcoholism this strikes me as a cause of problems second and a consequence of them first. Not that tackling this isn't a bad thing or that there's no vicious circle element here but targeting alcohol seems a popularist action that doesn't attempt to deal with the underlying problems that people turn to alcohol to escape.

Still I readily admit to knowing very little about the situation in Australia concering aboriginals other than basic general knowledge and a little I've picked up on a casual investigation on the impact of involuntary affirmation (I forgot if this is the correct term) in law courts and education.

It's a reaction to the enormous rate of child sexual abuse, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, etc in aboriginal communities. They're utter hellholes. Have been for a very long time but only recently has some of it been covered by the press. This news is several years out of date though.

The previous government came up with the porn ban. Yeah, that'll work. Idiot conservatives.
