so what i'm trying to ask here is how do i make this get better faster?

They only gave you aspirin? No wonder. I got Tylenol wit codeine. Slept through most of the day I had mine out.

Just remember not to drink through a straw. I guarantee dry socket hurts worse than the pain now.

I can't help too much, I had very little pain with mine as they were not impacted at all, in fact they were debating to let them just grow out and then pull them. All I can tell you is to keep ice on them and not to drink through a straw. Get some better pain killers too.

I had to go back and have them repacked with clove oil wadding, clove oil really cut the pain.

Re: ow ow ow

After my three wisdom teeth were taken out, I spent the first/second day feeling a very mild numbing sensation. Over the week, I had very mild swelling that lasted barely over two days.

I was chewing steak right after a week.

My prescribed bottle of Tylenol 3 is still full; I didn't have to take one.

1.5 months after, I went for a check-up with a second dentist, and when I told him how long ago I had surgery, he went wtf.

I think I had one of the best experiences ever. Either that, or you guys are pansies.

I got one yanked 2 weeks ago and one yanked 1 week ago. For the pain I got a little cotton cylinder that I threw in the trash when I got home because the bleeding stopped after 45 minutes. I find that having some balls tend to work good against any pain.

I had 1 yanked somewhere in september, same deal. In october they worked on one tooth for 4 hours then stitched me up and made an appointment for a surgeon to finish the job. That time I took Paracetamol which worked just fine.

I had my 2 lower taken out 16 years ago because they were starting to get impacted and was hurting my jaw. They gave me a weeks supply of percocet. no refills. the gaping holes took over 6 months to close. a third was taken out 8 years ago after breaking through the gum. with that one, waiting to get numbed up took longer than taking the tooth out.

keep those wounds clean. if you get food in there, it can get infected. especially if the sockets are deep.

MORPHINE !!!!!!!!!

u know what's worse than wisdom teeth being pulled out ?

having your mouth so small, not only did your wisdom teeth have to come out, but 4 permanent teeth as well (they were taken out way before i had my wisdom teeth removed).

having those 4 permanent teeth pulled FULLY AWAKE was the worse pain i ever felt in my LIFE!!!!!!!

when you're HANGING UP OFF of the examination table by his tooth pliers thingy and SCREAMING SO LOUD U WAKE THE DEVIL UP, and the doctor says oh don't be such a baby, it doesn't even hurt........man....that doctor...had no idea how close he was to death.....my eyes had murder in them!!!!!

Did I already tell you that I got one of my teeth extracted without numbing ? the doctor gave me one, of course, but it didn't work that well and at the end he said "OK, that was the maximum dose and I already started, so we have to get through that now". So that's how people felt when pulling teeth was still the job of the blacksmith or the hairdresser.

Advantage of blacksmith: Pulls the tooth in one second. Disadvantage: Might pull the wrong one or several at once.
Advantage of hairdresser: More sensible treatment. Disadvantage: Might talk you an ear off with his gossip.

I find that having some balls tend to work good against any pain.

heh, when I say prescribed aspirin i meant apo-ibuprofen, i just somehow learned they were the same thing. my bleeding took a long time to stop but once that went away and i leanred how to swallow properly, everything is better now. i hear the swelling/pain ramps up to day 4 and goes down and so far after the surgical freezing wore off it's been a-ok. just kinda jumped the gub on the whole pain thing i guess, heh. it waspretty cool to wake up and not feel the front of my face.
thanks D2 otf, i think i'll be ok and eat some more pudding.

Re: ow ow ow

Well I had one out a couple years back. I was eating some chicken, then I started chewing something that seemed like a rock mixed in the meat. I took it out and saw it was a piece of a broken tooth. I was in denial and passed it off as some bone from the food or w/e. The next few days I noticed I could not eat on one side of my mouth. Whenever I did, the food would press into some of the softer tooth that is located deep under the enamel. It hurt like hell, so I looked way back there. What a mess; there were chunks of wisdom tooth at diagnal angles and actual tooth shards that felt loose. I tried brushing back there to break some of it off and that really hurt.

I was very lucky to get a dentist appointment in three days. I sure was tired of only being able to use one side to chew everything! The dentest took a look and I was thrilled that he was willing to extract right on that day. He could have given me the run around and said come back in 2 days if he really wanted to.

So luckily he had the right extraction tool for the job. It was some wierd clamp that fit on the tooth even though it was broken and akward. He turned an attached screw clockwise and I heard crunch crunch crunch. He turned it counter clockwise and there more crunching. The novacane made me feel nothing. He did it quick too.

Then his assitant gave me the thing and it was really hideous becaue it was half broken off and discolored from decay. Brush your teeth everyday people.

I was REALLY glad he got that thing out of my head. I stood there with blood in the corners of my mouth and thanked him for freeing up my other teeth. I didn't take the aspirin he gave me...see, the annoying tooth was yanked right out of my skull. The problem was solved. There is only one drug that matters: the sodium channel blocker he injects at the office so you don't feel anything when it is pulled, or screwed out or whatever he did.

The lesson: be very thankful that it is out of your head.

Am I the only one who didn't have a bad experience with getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled? :scratchchin:

Of course I was like 16 at the time so maybe that worked in my favor.

No pain (or pills) and I was eating pizza later that afternoon. :jig:

I had a relatively normal experience, got the tylenol with codeine and avoided straws, same as jonesy

but jonesy was probably used to the pain from all those times I punched him in the face

You're lucky! I had all 4 of 'm pulled and it was rather unpleasant.

There's a big difference between having them pulled and getting surgery. They took all 4 of mine out before even one of them broke the surface of my gums.

Wait, your dentist gave you aspirin, which thins the blood, after you had surgery? Apparently he wants you to bleed to death. :scratchhead:

not when you're ~7-10 ? (can't remember how young i was) years old and hanging UP IN THE AIR by your tooth..and my....testosterone hasn't fully been released yet by my pituitory gland in my brain :p

and this happend 4 times....in a row.....4 teeth were removed....i screamed like a banshee on steroids!

but i sure had the rage-angry-agression, as i said i had murder in my eyes for that dentist, he was so close to dying and didn't even know it. it HURT, HURT VERY BAD! worse pain in my entire life (i'm 99.9% positive anyways).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
good point about dentistry in ancient times though,

hopefully i'd have my teeth knocked out from fights or war :p

that's the easiest and least painful way:D

in modern day....an alternative to dentists: ice hockey anyone ???
