OTF Personality Thread: Merick

Ok, here is the next edition of the OTF Personality Threads. The subject for this edition is Merick.

First, some ground rules.

You MUST of course obey all forum rules.

Keep it clean, do not mindlessly flame the subject at hand, but also be honest.

The goal of this thread is to let the subject know how they are viewed by the readers of this forum.

Let them know how you perceive their personality, what you think of their posting style.

Lurkers are MORE than welcome to participate in these threads, it will be interesting to find out what people who merely read and do not participate themselves think of the forum members here.

This can get out of hand fairly easily, and if so, they will have to stop, so lets have some self restraint and use common sense about what you are actually going to type.

So, OTF, what do you think of Merick?

He's good with the maths! And he has a nice deep voice.

Edit: nm, that is Gert with the deep voice. I always get those two confused.

I think it's very admirable that he's coped so well with the terrible, debilitating Elephantiasis that he has been cursed with. Kudos to you, Merick.

Re: OTF Personality Thread: Merick

Fun guy to talk to in chat, would definitely go out for a beer with him.

I think he should come around more though.

I am just thankful that he quit using those creepy Bill Gates avatars.

Don't really know Merick very well, but he's one of the few people on these forums that watch Lost, so there's something I like about him.

I watch Lost, but I'm starting to wish I didn't.

Merick is one of about three posters who I always get confused. I like them all though.

I'm a fan of Merick. He's been around for a while and doesn't post as much as he used to, but I usually enjoy the posts he does decide to make. Says very commonsensical things, but I mean that in a complementary way, not a "duh" way. Glad to have him around.

Merick is one of my favorite posters and perhaps the one I'd most enjoy meeting in RL.

I don't think I've ever seen him being mean (not sure he realizes it's fun, sometimes ), and he indeed cracks some witty jokes.

Beyond that, he and I share some pretty similar interests, namely reading books and gaming.

And gratz to him for 7k posts

I really enjoy Merick's posts, and I second what Gert says about him.

And he lived through Elephantiasis! They made a movie about him. He's famous.

I like Merick. I know I've joked about him always leaving chat at the same time but it's really an admirable quality that he is so disciplined about his sleep. Props to him for that.

I always read his blog even if I don't comment. He is a very nice person and I enjoy talking with him. The forum and world would be worse off without him.

It's interesting how different writing styles and personalities appeal to each of us. I have to be honest in saying that Merick isn't a poster that I've taken particular note of - not because I'm not aware of them, but that I guess there haven't been any specific posts or view points that have really struck out. From what I have seen though, their posts have been well balanced and thought out. I most definitely have no negative impression on Merick.

Spice of variety is what makes the OTF what it is.

High five! I made a Lost social group, who else likes Lost here? http://forums.diabloii.net/group.php?groupid=9

There are some very excellent episodes in season 4, I don't know how far it is in Australia, but it's been a very good season.

Hmm, have you been reading my blog? Metamucil will pay if I don't win a towel.

To be fair, most of these kind souls know me mostly via chat in #ashes.

It is somewhat disappointing that I've made over 7000 posts that have evidently made a small impression on those who have read them. I guess I'm a bit more passionate about my opinions on gameplay-related Diablo stuff than politics.

Re: OTF Personality Thread: Merick

Well, i think you hit the nail on the head... I think those that tend to be more "recognized" in the OTF are the ones that have a tendency toward a polarized view... or possible flamboyant posting style - such that it causes other's to take note of it. Not that it's a bad thing to be somewhat of a wallflower mind you. I'd imagine if one of these personality threads is posted about me, that there are a large portion of OTF regulars that wouldn't have much to say about me. I imagine I really haven't stood out on the OTF as others have. Again, that's not a bad thing.

One thing I do like about these OTF: Personality threads is that people I may not have noticed as much before are now in the spotlight - which is causing me to perk my attention to pay more note of future posts. So... I like these threads. As a general rule, they have been pretty good, honest, and interesting.

I'd imagine a good portion of your posts though, have been in the gaming forums though? I know that as far as Dii.net is concerned, I post exclusively in the OTF nowadays as I've long since quit playing [crowbar swings].

You'd see me over in the Worldofwar.net forums however as I do tend to lurk and post from time to time in the druid forum and sometimes community.
