    OT - Your favorite lyrics

So.... what are your favorite lyrics? Here's one of my favorite :

    Tool - Reflection

I have come curiously close to the end, down
    Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole,
    Defeated, I concede and
    Move closer
    I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
    How pitiful

    It's calling me...

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret - my confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me

Its source is bright and endless
    She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting

And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't wanna be down here feeding my narcissism.
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
    Before I pine away.

So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
Just let the light touch you
And let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason ...
    before we pine away.

    Yesterday has been and gone.
Tommorow will I find the sun
    Or will it rain?
    Everybody's having fun
Except me, I'm the lonely one.
    I live in shame.

    I say...
    Goodbye to romance,
    Goodbye to friends,
    Goodbye to all the past;
    I guess that we'll meet...
    We'll meet in the end

I've been the king; I've been the clown.
Now broken wings can't hold me down.
    I'm free again.
The jester with the broken crown-
It won't be me this time around
    To love in vain.

    I say...
    Goodbye to romance,
    Goodbye to friends,
    Goodbye to all the past;
    I guess that we'll meet...
    We'll meet in the end

And I feel the time is right,
Although I know that you just might say to me
    What'cha gonna do?
    What'cha gonna do?
But I have to take this chance goodbye
    To friends and to romance.
    And to all of you.
    And to all of you.
    Come on now!

    I say...
    Goodbye to romance,
    Goodbye to friends,
    Goodbye to all the past;
    I guess that we'll meet...
    We'll meet in the end

    And the weather's looking fine
And I think the sun will shine again
And I feel I've cleared my mind
All the past is left behind again

    I say...
    Goodbye to romance,
    Goodbye to friends,
    Goodbye to all the past;
    I guess that we'll meet...
    We'll meet in the end

    Goodbye To Romance -Ozzy Osbourne

We held hands on the last night on earth.
Our mouths filled with dust, we kissed in the fields and under trees,
screaming like dogs, bleeding dark into the leaves.
It was empty on the edge of town but we knew everyone floated
along the bottom of the river.
So we walked through the waste where the road curved into the sea
    and the shattered seasons lay,
and the bitter smell of burning was on you like a disease.
In our cancer of passion you said, "Death is a midnight runner."
The sky had come crashing down like the news of an intimate suicide.
We picked up the shards and formed them into shapes
of stars that wore like an antique wedding dress.
The echoes of the past broke the hearts of the unborn
as the ferris wheel silently slowed to a stop.
The few insects skittered away in hopes of a better pastime.
I kissed you at the apex of the maelstrom and asked
if you would accompany me in a quick fall,
but you made me realize that my ticket wasn't for two.
    I rode alone.
You said, "The cinders are falling like snow."
There is poetry in despair, and we sang with unrivaled beauty,
bitter elegies of savagery and eloquence.
    Of blue and grey.
Strange, we ran down desperate streets and carved our names in the flesh of the city.
The sun was stagnated somewhere beyond the rim of the horizon
and the darkness is a mystery of curves and lines.
Still, we lay under the emptiness and drifted slowly outward,
and somewhere in the wilderness we found salvation scratched
into the earth like a message.

This is the spoken part that happens before This Time Imperfect on AFI's Sing The Sorrow.

Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.

If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.

There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
    Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
    What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
    And leave me alone?
    And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
    Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?

Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Silly kids and there music these days :). The kind of music I listen to doesn't have lyrics so you can make your own. Like Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.

haha, that's actually a good song, same with the whole album (and the rest of the old Malmsteen albums, especially Rising Force)

I met a man locked away for things he hadn't done
Innocense on a ball and chain he'll never feel the sun
Again on his face or roses in his hands
But when he smiled at me I could understand

If you're free you'll never see the walls
If your head is clear you'll never free fall
If you're right you'll never fear the wrong
If your head is high you'll never fear at all

There was a daughter of a man who took his life so young
She swore she'd never do the same then did just what he'd done
And a boy who's gone insane, voices in his head
No one knows what they say, now his mother's dead

If you're free you'll never see the walls
If your head is clear you'll never free fall
If you're right you'll never fear the wrong
If your head is high you'll never fear at all

There was a man who had a face that look alot like me
I saw him in the mirror and I fought him in the street
And when he turned away I shot him in the head
Then I came to realize I had killed myself

If you're free you'll never see the walls
If your head is clear you'll never free fall
If you're right you'll never fear the wrong
If your head is high you'll never fear at all

    Audioslave - Exploder

This song doesn't open that fast, but once you realize the lyrics it'll all make alot sense. Alot of metaphoras there and hidden meanings behind the words. To me this song describes a phase in my life when I didn't care what happened to myself, whether I lived or died. So in a way, I did confront myself and fought the "other side" of me...the one that remains won...

edit: though not before I had two NDE's in real life...

For those who have read the profile I wrote in "the other place" or the OTF before the crash, might have some clue about the backgrounds on this, but it'd still be only a part of the things that happened back then. Maybe someday I'll post the whole story, but right now I still simply can't put everything into words that happened during that period...

edit 2: there's alot of other lyrics that mean alot to me, basically because I wrote them though. All from the same period...could post some of them if someone wants *shrugs*

    The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

    Disarm you with a smile
And cut you like you want me to
    Cut that little child
Inside of me and such a part of you
    Ooh, the years burn

I used to be a little boy
    So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my choice
What?s a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
    My love
I send this smile over to you

    Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
    To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who?s left alone
    Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn, burn, burn

I used to be a little boy
    So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my voice
What?s a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
    My love
I send this smile over to you

The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you

One of their poppiest songs, but that's ok. I recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit harmonic. I really like some of what Nirvana wrote, but the songs don't really translate into lyrics. Download "You know you're right" if you've got the time

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    And nothing else matters

    Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
    And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
    And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
    But I know

So close no matter how far
It couldn't be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
    But I know

I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
    And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
    And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
    And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
    Forever trusting who we are
    No, nothing else matters

Metallica has to be my favourite band, and this song is one of their more peaceful numbers. It has special meaning to myself and my better half, as we are currently half a world appart, and although we'll hopefully be together soon... "So close, no matter how far" about sums it up.

^ Killer song. I'm not a big fan, but there are some numbers that are just...right. That is one of them.

"The road through life is rocky, and you may stumble too, so while you're laughin' at me, someone else is judg'in you."

    ~Bob Marley.

    why have we forsaken love?
    the time has come to
    raise our voices
So rise up and fight with me."

    From "Freewill", by Rush:

You can choose a ready guide, in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears, and kindness that can kill,
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill.

From "Darkness On The Edge Of Town", by Bruce Springsteen:

...cause tonight, I'll be on that hill, cause I can't stop
I'll be on that hill with everything I've got.
Lives on the line, where dreams are found and lost,
Well I'll be there on time, and I'll pay the cost,
For wanting things that can only be found
In the darkness on the edge of town.

From "The End", by The Doors:

This is the end, beautiful friend.
This is the end, my only friend, the end.
    Of our elaborate plans-the end.
    Of everything that stands-the end.
No safety or surprise, the end.
I'll never look into your eyes, again.

Can you picture, what will be?
So limitless and free, desperately in need,
of some stranger's hand, in a desperate land.

From "Mr. Tambourine Man", by Bob Dylan:

...and take me disappearing, through the smoke rings of my mind
down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
the haunted frightened trees, out to the windy beach
far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
with all memory and fate, driven deep beneath the waves,
let me forgot about today, until tomorrow...

Lastly, from "Mothers of the Disappeared", by U2

    Midnight, our sons and daughters,
cut down, taken from us, hear their heartbeat,
    we hear their heartbeat.

In the wind, we hear their laughter,
through the rain, we see their tears, hear their heartbeat,
    we hear their heartbeat,

    Knotted hands, like a prisoner,
stretched over, black and blue, hear their heartbeat
    we hear their heartbeat.

In the trees, our sons stand naked,
through the walls, our daughters cry
See their tears, in the rainfall...

So many more, so little time...

    Steve

This is not so much lyrics, but the whole CD. Pink Floyds' THE WALL.

Everything from the heartbreaking Mother, *Why did it have to be so high?* to Comfortably Numb to The Trial. It's a complete lyrical story. absolutly briliant.

And on a lighter note, The Vapours' Turning Japanese

    No S*x, No Dr*gs,
    No Wine, No Women,
    No Fun, No Sin,
No You, No wonder it's dark.

But would I be a good messiah with my low self-esteem?
If I don't believe in myself, would that be blasphemy?

Bloodhound Gang has some great stuff =) The above is one of my favorites along with the whole of "I hope you die".

The following is in German from a German Punk Band (Die Ärzte). The title of the song is Madonna's Colon. The first four line translate to:

I'd like to be Madonna's colon
    Yeah, I'd always be full;
And I'd only hace to eat
    what she has already eaten.

    Ich wär gern Madonnas Dickdarm
Ja dann wär ich immer satt
    Und ich würde nur verspeisen
    Was sie schon gegessen hat
Ich will immer ganz vorne stehn
    Egal um was es geht
Selbst wenn ich nur ein Schwindler bin
    Der auf der Bühne steht

    Ich will einmal nach Saarbrücken
    Ja Saarbrücken wäre nett
Ich will Haare auf dem Rücken
    Und ein rosa Himmelbett
    Ich will an etwas glauben
    Was es gar nicht gibt
Ich möchte mal ein Model treffen
    Das sich in mich verliebt

    Und das ist
    Das ist
Das ist alles was ich will
    Und das ist
    Das ist
Das ist alles was ich will

    Fest gemauert in der Erde
Steht die Form aus Lehm gebrannt
Heut noch soll die Glocke werden
    Frisch Gesellen seid zu Hand

    Ich möchte rote Haare
Die bis zu den Hüften gehn
Dann kipp ich mir die Birne zu
Dann kann ich nicht mehr stehn
    Ich wär gern Gynäkologe
Ja, dann hätt ich viele Frauen
Ich würd sie von außen küssen
    Und von innen mir anschauen

Ich möchte will Yoko Ono kill‘n
    Und ihr Vermögen erben
Und wenn es einmal soweit ist
Will ich auf meinem Skateboard sterben

    Und das ist
    Das ist
Das ist alles was ich will
    Das ist
    Das ist
Das ist alles was ich will

That one made me remember a song by Raimundos, a brazilian rather popular rock band. I don't remember the name of the song exactly.

    (translated)
    I recognized
Madonna standing right there in the garden
    I couldn't resist
Went there to ask what she thought of me

    I cannot speak English
She doesn´t understand a word in portuguese.

    (original)
I saw you say that you say that you saw
I saw you say that you say that you saw
I feel good because you put your buttt on me.

    (translated)
    I asked my father
what she had said to me, "she said, my boy,

    (original)
I saw you say that you say that you saw
I saw you say that you say that you saw
I feel good because you put your buttt on me.

Not the best song ever, I know, but the dumb reference to Madonna was way cool!
