OT: Network fire wall advice needed

I went to my friend's Computer Security and Privacy class (taught by Avi Rubin!) last friday to watch a presentation, which amounted to one big wake-up call about how vulnerable my computer was. My housemates and i run no firewall software on our house network, and i don't even have anti-viral software running on my computer. Stupid stupid stupid. Anyways, i'm going to start by downloading free firewall software and then buying one eventually. I was wondering if you guys know which is a good free one to start with?

Under consideration:
ZoneAlarm Free edition (i hear this one is pretty crippled)
Kerio Personal Firewall
Outpost Firewall from Agnitum
Sygate Personal Firewall

Are there others that are better? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I run Zone Alarm pro and I believe the only differences is with stuff like the popup blocker and email scanning. I believe the base product does fine but I would still recommend buying the full version someday, if nothing else for the updates to the engine.

You may have a firewall on your router too. If not you may want to consider one with one. I actually have the router firewall as well as Windows XP firewall running. No spam or anything has gotten thru so far.

I have a Linksys hardware firewall/router, then Kerio Personal plus Windows XP firewall on my PC. Kerio Personal is great.

For your own computer u might want to have norton antivirus for virus protection and possibly norton internet security for i-net protection

yup, threat level are pretty high nowadays, huh. i'm thinking of getting a firewall myself. :thumbsup:
