OT: Free Itemz for the Community

I started D2 when it first came out in July 2000. Through the years, I have taken long and short breaks, one as long as 10 months. However, I never really thought of giving up completely. Last time I played seriously, I started from scratch in the Ladder Season 1 and got myself some decent stuff. Then, I went on vacation to London and Paris. When I came back, there was a new ladder seaon. Somehow, there there is no passion to play anymore. I don't even think I want to come back anymore. Something called "real life" just seems more important and interesting now. So there, I want to give all my stuff away before they get deleted from expiration.

I don't know how to do this. Nobody I know plays Diablo2 anymore. So I guess I will have to ask you guys about how to give away my stuff. I don't want to give to random people in public games as they are quite greedy and stupid. So, any suggestions?

I propose that you should have an essay contest on why the person in question deserves your stuff. You can judge based on grammer mechanics and spelling to gauge the maturity level and mental capacity of the participants. I would also suggest ruling out anyone who uses the following expressions:

1. Acronyms such as LOL and ROFLMAO. This demonstrates that the user is too lazy to type out an entire sentence and feels the need to abbreviate everything in an effort to save time. It also shows that s/he spends too much time in chat rooms, which are hotbeds of stupidity.

2. Shorthand versions of real words. Anyone who can't type two exta letters when typing the word "you" can't be trusted to renew an account on account of their extreme laziness. The other possibility is that they simply cannot spell the word "you", and simply type the letter with the same sound. This is even worse, since their age either consists of one digit or they never completed basic grammar school.

3. Substituting letters with similar looking numbers (ex. d3wm as opposed to doom). This suggests that the applicant either thinks that numbers look more asthetically pleasing than words composed entirely of actual letters, or some kind of brain lesion. Both of these mean that the applicant will be stupid, and thus doesn't deserve your items.

Or you could split up what you have amongst people you know and then have some sort of giveaway if you are too lazy to set up a competition or some tournament.

I definitely agree a competition/tournament is the way to go if you don't have any close friends you'd like to give gear to. I've given away gear before to complete strangers and trust me it will break your heart how ungrateful they'll act, and sometimes the jackasses will even put your account on friends and spam you for free items daily.

I've seen people hold contests on what joke makes the contest holder laught the most... ive seen people ask questions and they get certain items for certain questions... You can tell them to pic a number between 1-1,000... hold some kind of game if you dont have someone to give it to. Good luck picking who gets it eh

Thanks guys, these are all excellent suggestions.

Since I have too much time at work (cough), I will start a trivia contest. I will post many trivia questions on many subjects. First person to answer a question correctly gets certain amount of points. Then that particular question is off the list. The person with most amount of points wins. The answers are probably easily searched on the Internet. So in the end, it probably comes down to who cares the most and take sometime to search for the answers. Anyway, the details are still being worked on and I will probably start this in 2 or 3 days.

To generate more interest, here are more random rambling...

So the realm in question is USWest Non Ladder (used to be Ladder season 1).

All the relevant contest postings will be in this forum (Paladin) because my first ever char was a paladin and my last char was also a paladin.

Here are some of the items I have (sorry, nothing godly)

(almost) Base Strength MF Hammerdin
Shako, Mara, Hoto, Mage Plate Enigma, HoZ, Anni...etc (maxed resists even with low mara and hoto)

MF Strafezon
Partial Tal's Set, Windforce, War Trav ...etc

Full IK, Full Trang Oul, bunch of other items I don't remember...

sweet... i retired a while back and gave my account to a trustworthy friend of mine and was hoping to start d2 again... so i hope i win this and have a 2nd chance to get started ;) keep us posted.
