OT: Flash and AC

Well, I am in the mood for some convorsation, and I was wondering if anyone here uses Flash. Flash it a program used to make Flash movies obviously. If you have ever been to Newgrounds, all of the cartoons there are made with Flash. I would link it, but I dont think we can link to sites with inappropriate banners and such I sometimes do Flash, and have a few movies, and I am not the greatest, but it would be cool if anyone else around here uses it. I know we have some good artists around here (K_P, addicted2macs) but some Flash'ers would be cool

And as to the AC, does anyone here play Animal Crossing for GC. i bought it around Christmas and played for a while, and then stopped. I played tonight an alot of my animals were saying how I hadn't talked to them for about 3 months. My town is filled with weeds and it is a new season, so new fish.

And if no one knows what I am talking about, just nod and smile

flash is hot. i will be using it eventually. and AC is a (ridiculously amazing) game that I refuse to buy for myself because it would eat my life. period.

But Flash websites need to be shot, and then stomped on, and then shot into the sun with this giant slingshot I'm working on. I need help twisting up all the rubber bands that go into this thing, if anyone needs some steady work.

I can make Flashmovies, it rather easy actually, but drawing the stuff, thats what makes Flash a pain in the rearend!

I've never had any experience with Flash, and besides which my artistic vision way, way outstrips my actual talent... I have used Shockwave (which is kinda similar to Flash but not quite, as I understand it), but the results were rather less than impressive.

Whats wrong with small Flash applets on a website? As long as the whole page isent Flashed, i think its cool.

If Flash is required to view the content of the site, or to navigate through it, then I think it needs to be redesigned by people who understand html and css.

Doesnt most people have Flash plugins installed?

If not, they should!

And its not an easy task making a page look as a Flashed page with just HTML and Stylesheets.

OHh, just recalled your a MAC user, how is Flash working for you guys? (yeah, both of you )

Han han, go clean up your daily viruses.

Shockwave plugins work just fine on all my browsers. It's just that most of the Flash-only sites out there are designed by some computer jockey who thinks that REALLY AWESOME GRAFIXX!!! are the only thing required in a quality site, and he ends up creating like a 600kb download to present information that could look just the same in a small, clean xhtml layout. I've never seen an all-Flash site that needed to be Flash.

Some things that it messes up:
# The "Back" button does not work. If you navigate within a Flash object, the standard backtracking method takes you out of the multimedia object and not, as expected, to the previous state.*
# The "Make text bigger/smaller" button does not work. Users are thus forced to read text in the designer-specified font size, which is almost always too small since designers tend to have excellent vision.
# The "Find in page" feature does not work. In general, Flash integrates poorly with search.

* this one was fixed in a more recent release of Flash but it's still implemented in a spotty manner.

These ones bother me most. There's lots more like that on this page, which is four years old but still pretty relevant.

Agreed, but small,controlled Flashthingies are useful to some extent. but it would fall in your AWSOME GRAFIXX!! category, not simple and useful.

I took Flash in college, and I hated every agonizing moment of it. It's an easy program, but making the graphics for it are, well... annoying. I'm not a big fan of vector images, or at least, creating vector images.

Viewing flash, however, is cool. I'm a big homestar fan, though, so that may explain it.

Flash is easy to use, once you learn how. Drawing gets easier after using it for a while. Just drawing a bunch of straight lines and bending them can make a nice looking effect. Although drawing with the paintbrush looks cooler if you can do it.



And yes, viewing good flash is cool. If you have ever seen Neurotically yours, alot of Flash'ers don't really like it because of the lack of animation. Anyone can draw some symbols and tween a good 2 minute cartoon, easy There is that annoying voice too.

I guess Animal Crossing isnt a hot topic
