@ 6$, Try setting a routine. at x time start widing down, drink a glass of milk, tea, no caffine though (and none after 6 pm). It's not important what you drink, so long as it becoems a ritual, something with prep is helpful (like a cup of tea) a tablespoon of honey is also helpful for insomnia. Avoid food as this can actully make sleep harder, and is bad for your weight. Then go to bed at the same time, and if you need to, get back up afterwards, but try to sleep at the same time.
No drugs. caffine, alchol, none of it (if you can). make sure none after 8 but try to avoid anything after 6.
Always wake up at the same time. If you sleep late on the weekends, you'll mess your cycle futher out of wack.
Find something soothing. Some peopel do music, I do books, excersie works so long as you finish at least 30 minutes before you attempt to sleep.
Don't think about it. I know that's like saying "ignore the pink elephant in the corner" you just have to look. But focusing on failure to sleep will only stress you futher, making it hard to rest at all, and harder to sleep when you try. Your brain will fight you in an attempt to do what you're telling it you expect to happen.
