haha.

its still a toss up between whether i want to go to uni next year or join the navy and become an electrical technician. The navy option is really tempting as i'd get alot of money and after my 4 years(compulsory 4 years) i'd be 21/22 so it's not like I couldn't change my career path if it wasnt for me. and i'd get one hell of a qualification too. The only real draw back is i'd really have to start working on my fitness again.
It's that time of the month when Corax has to change his underwear..... Although, getting a trade is not a bad idea at all, there is now and will continue to be a very large shortage in skilled tradesmen in Australia. It would be nice to have that behind you I guess.......

@Nacca - So what went wrong with the date?????

@All - take it easy.......

@nacaa - so what went wrong on date?

@grogs - good luck with the move m8, sounds fun and exciting!

@corax - played hero quest as well, when i was about 13 ... awesome game, but dnd has so much more content which really makes it great. good luck with the career choices.....MHO is go to uni. the military is great ... but i think a college education pays off better in the long run.. again MHO only.

@the rest - great day

I've known a number of people who have put in 4 years in the military, then gone on to college. And every one of them was a better college student than they would have been if they had gone earlier. Sometimes you're just not ready for college when you're that young. It really depends on the individual.

And if the Navy will foot the bill for college, then even better. But again, it depends on the individual whether 4 years in the military is right for you.

You always have wise words piscene, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I also know many people who have joined the military and have suffered for it. Its really up to the individual to make that call. While many do work/join the military and then proceed to college afterwards, the majority of people who do not directly transition into college from highschool tend to not go to college at all. This is mainly what I was referring too, as it is often a choice of doing one or the other. In that case I would rather go to college than end up going into the military and never going to college afterwards. Going back to school when you havent been in school for a long time is alot harder for some people. Again MHO.

Well, we met on a disco this saturday and it started off good. Then she became more interested with her friends and kinda ignored me so to speak. It felt to me that I was just in the way. So I left, and went to a bar instead with a friend. We haven't talked since.

Piscene: Wise words. Completely agree with you. I will probably study when I am done and I feel now that I will do better than before since I have grown alot since I went to the army.

Would you get to travel to some cool places? Now is the time to do something like that, while you're young. You can go to uni anytime, but if you're thinking about the navy, this would be the time to do it. And I'm not sure that working on your fitness is really a draw back.
:D that's what I have been thinking. isn't it lucky I have piscene here to articulate things. :D
I didnt mean that my fitness was a bad thing. I always just struggle to get myself to start and then keep motivated.

IMO the military would be a good thing for me as it'd make me finish 'growing up' so to speak and then if i decide to go to uni i'll still only be 21/22. And i'll have a trade to support me through uni, which can never be a bad thing.
+theres the travel and the seschy uniform :D

The military does put you through Uni here if you do an 'officer' course. which can be anything from real 'officering' to piloting. they are 'science' concentrated courses which is pretty cool. piloting would be pretty cool too.
hmmmmmmm......

Oh, yeah, you can't forget the cool navy uniforms. Waaaay better than cheesy camoflage. You can't make any important decision without thinking about the clothes you'd be wearing. :D

If you do join the navy, you know we'll need a picture of you in full dress. :thumbsup:

hi fellow-DooLers!
I have started to work in carinthia in a pharmacy. currently my head is full of building stuff. we plan to build a big appartment for us with about 160-180 m².
Today we met an architect who will draw some rough plans. so in about a fortnight we should have some possible ideas on paper. then we must see if we can finance this plan and if we get the building permission from the mayor. it will be an appartment under the roof on 2nd floor. and we are planning to build massive dormers into the roof to avoid pitched roof areas in our appartment.
this is one of the most exciting periods in my life so far. building a new appartment and then choosing all the furniture, the floors, doors, kitchen and so on is really something exciting. maybe my excitement will drop when I see what this will cost or it may even rise into infinity. :D

@nacaa: tell us what went wrong on your date please, I am very curious.

@corax: I believe better education always pays off in the long term. plus I am from a neutral country and have managed to avoid military service and believe in pacifism. so I'd always choose uni over a military/navy career. but that's just me...

thanks for all your gratulations again!, I will report back soon ;)

Why an apartment and not a house if it's gonna be 1700-1900 sq ft? Are you over the pharmacy? When you say second floor are you talking 1 flight of stairs or 2?? (I seem to recall that some Euro buildings call (what I'd call the) 1st floor the ground floor and (what I'd call the 2nd) the 1st. Confusing me from the ground up *shakes head*)

Isengart, that is very exciting having a place built. Better hold onto your wallet, though...it's not gonna be cheap. :)

yes the appartment would be in the same house as the pharmacy. and it would be about 540 sqare feet if I recall the transformation from m to ft correctly with 1m~3ft. It would be 2 flights of stairs. We learned "Oxford English" in school and so I call the lowest floor the "ground floor". But I know that this is a European habit only.
The vicinity to the shop that I will own once my mother will retire is the main reason for our plan building under the roof.

@nacaa thanks, I have overseen this posting.

have a nice day/weekend!

1 SQUARE m = more than 9 SQUARE ft. 540sq feet would be about 7.5 m by 7.5 m or 23ft x 23ft (I got the numbers I gave by going to a metric caluclator, I have one bookmarked just for trying to figure out what you people are talking about, and to comunicate so that I might be understood easily) Though I can see why it'd be nice to be that close, no communte. The only bad thing is middle of the night emergency calls. That and having to haul your stuf up 2 flights of stairs when you move in.

uuups sorry I forgot about the square factor - what a mistake!!!! *lol*
concerning the emergency calls at night: we have emergency service 182 days a year, which means that we must be accessible 24 hours within 15 minutes. So the vicinity to the pharmacy is a big pro. I'd rather not drive the car 3 miles every time a customer rings the emergency bell.

@corax: I will publish some pictures!

Hey all,

The move has been made and we are in Brisbane!!! Signed a lease on a unit on Friday and will move in Tuesday. Back at work on Monday and looking forward to it.

@Nacca - Plenty more fish in the sea......

@Ronin - A change is as good as a holiday so they say, I'm really happy to be back in the 'real world', now if I could only convince Bec that this really is a good thing.

@Corax - My 2 cents on a break before uni starts: No real opinion about the armed services aside from the fact that it's all fun and games, unless someone is trying to kill you. But a break before uni is a good thing IMHO

@All - have a good weekend.

Dude, I would give my fav sorc up to be able to only drive 3 miles. I was driving 30 before I got so sick of the 45 min ea way commute and people I had to work w/ that I gave it up. It was more trouble (and money w/ gas and insurance added in) than it was worth and now I'm learning stained glass so I can work from home. Before we moved out here I was working 5 miles from home and was the one always called in for emergencies and to cover for someone when they didn't show because I was the closest.

Hello everyone

Sorry for my long absense.
I just haven't had the energy to be active in here, I've worked alot, tried to workout alot too, and on top of that my gf and I are closer than ever. My love for her is unimaginary high.... it's undescribeable, but it's great! Greater than I've ever thought possible. Her neck still hurts from the accident, but she starts work tomorrow morning 9 am sharp. I just hope she can make it through the day without too much pain and suffering.
She was unhurt from the accident aside from her neck. She probably got a small whiplash and she's hurt her neck once before that.

WM: I love your "week in review" thread. What an excellent idea! :thumbsup:
Please do continue to post them... it's really a very good idea, and I will post in there too.

Others: I will try to be more active in here. Sorry again for my absense... :)

Best regards and yours sincerely
Rizzo

It's ok, sweetheart... You've discovered what most of us still have to find out; that Real Life can and should never be replaced by any form of life online, and that you should cherish every second of Life Itself...
