OT: Adaware, your record

Ok, that Adaware thread a few days ago got me thinking. What is your personal record for spyware on your computer?
I will start it off at 273, that was pre-computer crash and it was about a year worth of spyware. I did a test about 2 minutes ago and had 40 in two days, where the hell do these bastards come from? They're like friggin beavers, I dunno why, but they just remind me of beavers.

Get rid of Internet Explorer as your browser, it collects Tracking Cookies as a MoFo. (Just saw Jackie Brown again, scus me french  )

And you must remember to check the box for removing them when Adaware is finished searching, but i guess you did that? :p

Argh

I have said it a number of times now. I am obviously to blame for the lack of Tyrael's Mights in your MF missions, and I am at fault when it comes to forum crashes and the common cold. I'm also the one who put the milk carton back in the fridge with just a few drops left in it. But . . .

 I DO NOT ACCEPT BLAME FOR THE
 IDIOCY OF WINDOWS USERS.

You people chose that wonderful OS and clicked on those things yourselves; take responsibility for these acts, at least.

My record is zero, since there are no spyware apps that run on the Mac (at least that I know of) and I don't do stupid file-sharing stuff.

I have 312 spywares caught on my laptop. I think there's another 200 or so caught from my desktop. I scan once a week and typically find 20-40 of the evil cookies (I've only recently started using Ad-Aware).

I think the first time I ran adaware, i found 6 or 8....I'm running winXP, browse primarily with netscape 7, and well, routinely go into my files and delete cookies by hand (bout once a month or so). even using the msn browser, I think I only netted about 5. Perhaps I'm not surfing enough? this is after over a year of use, primarily dialup, but also with 3 months of dsl (sniff...I miss dsl).

SpybotS&D netted the same number when I checked last week...most problems seem to be tracking cookies.

Hmm, I sense an opening in the market!

*starts writing Mac-based spyware furiously*

Hmm, my record seems to be 2 so far, maybe I'll do another scan now, afterall, it's been 2 months from the last scan...

edit: The results for that scan was a whopping 0. I think it shows pretty well how a protection that's setup right works...

just did the scan, and i'm up at the whooping 45, ...for the sake of the lack of competitions around here, i'm not so high in rankings though.

peace, NSK factory, and don't forget biscuits for smut

i dont knwo about individual, but my weekly ad-aware scan has given me 1088 files found over 17 weeks (1088 / 17 weekly scans = 64 per week ) althogh most of mine are foudn int eh cookies section, and Ie is useless at stopign those..

Whoa whoa, wait a sec. I'm a bit behind the times here, but where can I get this fabled Adaware program, and is it free? I'm positive I have a crapload of that stuff on my comp at home, so if I can get rid of it at no cost, I'll certainly do so.

Would you be so kind as to give us some tips as to how we can set-up to not get these blasted things.

By *far* the most important step is tossing IE. It's absolutely terrible about such things. I highly recommend Mozilla (Regular or Firefox). Then just block popups, block (most) cookies, and don't click on download speedup nonsense and penis enlargers;)

There are other measures one can take but aren't worth it IMHO.

Kaelin
