1 year ago on the 13th of August.... was the blackout that took over a large portion of the Eastern US and parts of Canada....

That was a day to remember....

Ya i remember that day. Was incredibly hot where i live and was just laying down for bed before work. So power goes out and im laying there swaeting not able to sleep so i figure hmm maybe ill go mess around on the computer till im more tired. DUH. Wound up having some friends over went swimming had a cookout drank beer played cards was hella fun. Didnt goto work and when the asked why i said because there is no power perhaps you heard about it? And i get ya but how does that stop you from coming in, uhh cant get out of my garage "oh ok" and that was that. Even more rediculas was that my employer put a message on the TV that all employees were to report as scheduled. DUH noone has power how are we going to see that?

The speculation that was abound on the AM dial was pretty creepy unfortunately we live in a day and age where we gotta think its a distinct posibility. Even worse is that after reading numerous studies about the whole deal is that its gonna happen alot more and be more widespread

Well 2day there is a slight drizzle in the NY area - cause by a hurricane that is down by the Florida peninsula..

It's true that power-outages may happen more often due to global warming and therefore more air-contiioners being used - causing power depletion if the various power grids sustain any variation of calamities...

When isnt it raining in NY? I think ive had 3 non rain days in a month. Ive had to drain water out of my pools 2xs from it all. Wing you from NY as well? or just watching the waether channel?

It wasn't raining in my part of NY. Anyways, I just remember getting out of work early.

OH, and my car was at honda getting fixed so I had no car and the girls who picked me up from work had no gas in the car...and if anyone remembers correctly hardly ANY gas stations were able to operate. So yeah we finally found one that could gas us up and waited for about 20 - 30 minutes...

Edit: Wow, I didn't realize that was a year ago already...

I rember work closed about 11 am and several of us started walking homward together (would have taken me 4 hours at least to walk the whole thing). Luckily one of my workmates had a super conscientious spouse who drove downtown and picked us up as we worked our way up Yonge Street..so only about 1.5 hours walking. Everybody was super friendly and pretty helpful. I do recall cursing one of my workmates who just had to bring her laptop home to get some work done but couldn't really carry it in her heels so I had to slog it most of the way. I recall it generally as a kind of fun day.

Yep I'm in NY .... Brooklyn to be specific... my office doens't have ne windows to the outside world... It was drizzlin when I went to get some lunch... not sure how it is now... I do have "weatherbug" online so I get some weather notifications...

Amazing it's been a year.
When it happened I was sitting in a Vegas hotel room, air conditioning on full blast. My parents and I getting ready to go to another buffet! :thumbsup:

I was doing the usual 10,000 cow runs a day (still 1.09 remember) and the power goes out. Then I went into the car and listenened to updates.... according to michael bloomberg, power was suppose to be restored at like 9:00 then 10:00 then 11:00....... yea he was always wrong. I remember it was a really hot day without air conditioning .

O ya wing, I also live in NY..... probably about 30 miles from where you live, I live on long Island in the town of wantagh, Babylon branch if you've ever taken the LIRR

Ironically, me and a few friends (also from Cali) were in NYC that day. Twas a strange trip indeed, but probably more to do with what we were doing....ahem. Yes. Strange.

Seems like it was longer ago than that, for some reason...mebbe suffering more draim branage than I thought.

I remember watching TV after the power went back on. It was CNN, and they said...I Quote: "I'm sure the power outage began somewhere in southern Canada, probably Toronto." This was said by freaking Aaron what's his face, I never knew that he was an international power expert. Of course he was pwned when his stupid "blame Canada" plan went out the window. I really wish they'd not come to such stupid conclusions, take the blame! Personally I don't care where the outage originated, but to blame someone on National television with no leads or a spec of proof is really unprofessional, what an idiot...

I also remember going downtown that night, I've never seen so many people outside just hanging out and having fun in the outdoors...maybe we need another outage!

Oh PLEASE! In 1998 all over quebec we had a HUGE power failiure that was 1 month long during the month of january... we had to grab some wood and heat the house with fire... dig holes in the snow to put our food, try to keep the liquid cold but not frozen, take sponge baths, and not turning insane because there was no radio, television or computer...

not to mention the 1 meter thick ice that was EVERYWHERE outside :grrr: [/rant]
