    On Striking question

I have this ammy that has 5% to cast level 3 chain lightening on striking. I have yet to see this go off. I have it on my MA bowazon.

Does this work for ranged attacks?

Do does it have to do with me using Magic Arrow?

I would think it might have something to do with your MA since you aren't actually striking anything with it since it doesn't have any physical component, it's more like sorc spells than melee attacks but I'm just guessing here.

I think it will only take effect when you are being hit.

So unless your amazon got hit, the spells will not go off.

This kind of amulet is best used on tank character.

Not true. That's for "when struck" mods. And Magic Arrow actually does have a physical component, interestingly enough. The skill will show you that it converts x% damage to magic damage (depending on the slvl).

My guess is that it doesn't work for ranged attacks, but I could be wrong.

yea, im going with the general opinion that 'on stricking' wont work for ranged. however 'when struck' works if you get hit by a ranged, so thats abit unfair..

Well, the 2% chance to cast amp damage on striking on the WWS works.

It could be the difference between "on striking" and "on attack." Just checked a list of affixes and the suffix Chain Lightning is "on attack." Perhaps that mod doesn't work with ranged while "on striking" does?

I once used one of these ammys + a ring on my strafazon, and it didn't work for me either. Could it be a bug?

The game gave me chain lightening "on striking". I can only assume this is either a bug or does not work on ranged attacks. I just asked to see if anyone could verify this.

The "on striking" and "on attack" mods are a bit screwy when used with skills like ma and blade fury for some reason or another they sometimes work and sometimes do not. Blade fury for instance does not work with "on attack" skills you can fire out 1000 mana worth of blades and not have 1 "on attack" mod trigger. Because Ma is a skill not a regular attack it may just be that the "on striking" mod just does not activate when that skill is used.

This is on the weapon itself. That may be slightly different, also is it triggering when using the MA skill?

Edit: I think you have a display bug on that item chain lightning only comes in the "on attack" style of mod and that would not work for MA at all. see http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/magic/procsuffixes.shtml for details.

Chance to cast holy bolts from LoH surely works on ranged attacks.. so does the firestorm from hellmouth.. goldstrike arch too... but i'm pretty sure my chance to cast chain lightning's never triggered on ranged attacks.

Where's RTB, Thrugg or the stat boys when you need 'em? :p

Too busy with real life :grrr:

Chance to cast on attack does not work with ranged attacks, problably because it's bugged. It's actually the same as On Striking now, you have to physically hit the monster to release the spell.

On Striking works just fine with ranged attacks AFAIK.
